One place I have considering buying is on Aphrodite Beachfront:

See:

http://www.cyprus44.com/properties/aphrodite-beachfront-village.asp

http://www.ipb-magazine.com/en/articles/aphrodite-beachfront

However:

http://www.ipb-magazine.com/en/articles/north-cyprus-government-refuses-hand-over-deeds-buyers

Does anyone have any updates on this?

Thank you for your reply, nci2010. But why not make it public?

Guzelyurt was to be handed over to the RoC under the Annan Plan in 2004

I would be cautious buyng in this area

The solution being suggested is a Trust?

Interesting. From the Annan Plan, (see p.119) http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2004/annan-cyprus-problem_maps_26feb03.pdf

-it is difficult to see if this is area was among what was to be handed over. Along the border, for sure.

msg#5:

Bradus, I donīt know. But I sure wish they would come out in the open about it. Why donīt they? At the moment they are marketing it as "100% safe" ....something I would not call any Trust.

100% safe? In the TRNC? Yeah right.

Have you looked at the posts on this forum and taken in the very good advice about buying in North Cyprus? If you have then you wouldn't even consider it.

Well, I can only repeat what they write about the project here:

http://www.ipb-magazine.com/en/articles/north-cyprus-government-refuses-hand-over-deeds-buyers

"In a state that needs negative press like a hole in the head, it really is hard to understand the logic"

and:

"the hardest lesson that needs to be learnt will not be living with its neighbours over the border but to recognise a source of investment and not to drive away much needed revenue. There is nothing more humiliating than to score an own goal."

True words!

Pre 74 Turkish Title deeds have often been referred to as being 100% safe and internationally recognised.

Which is why the TRNC want to keep them.

Keep them for who? They're not letting the Brits have them are they?

Save yourself a lot of hassle and buy completed property with a Kocanin the name of the vendor. If I knew then what I know now......

Save yourself a lot of hassle and heartache and just rent long term. Rents are reasonable and you keep your hard earned money where it belongs....in your own pocket. It also gives you the freedom to up sticks at a time of your own choosing without the millstone of a potentially unsellable property around your neck.

Just my opinion of course

Thank you all for your information/advice: most useful.

For various reasons renting long-term is not an option.

If there is nothing I can buy safely in Cyprus, then I will try Turkey or Egypt.

Under Annan Gaziveren was going to stay Turkish.

Gaziveren is traditionally Turkish and under any plan will stay within the TRNC.

But if Guzelyurt was returned, where would all it's current inhabitants go?
