In the past we have always had flights toNorth Cyprus with CTA. Have seen several good reports of Turkish airlines but do you have to change to a different plane in Turkey? This has always put us off in the past and we dont really want to fly to Larnaca and have a transfer from there. There should have been some news about CTA by now. Anybody heard anything?

Turkish Airlines are excellent, but yes you do have the plane change in Istanbul, but we have never had a problem, you need to be flexible on dates to get best prices.

We flew with Turkish Airlines in August and it was a fantastic flight both ways. The change of planes in Instanbul was easy. Straight to the transit lounge. No reclaiming baggage, it is all done for you. It gives you time to stretch your legs and go to the toliet. We even had time to go to the duty free on way home. We have used C.T.A before but found getting off at Istanbul was much better than sitting in a hot plane on the tarmac.

Turkish Airlines are really good. The change of aircraft in Istanbul is no problem at all - just follow the transit signs.

No, with Turkish airlines I have paid between £180 and £260 return depending upon dates and you also get food and Star Alliance miles.

We tend to go to Larnaca - find it much easier, with more choice cheaper fares and better airlines (BA etc). Flight is only 4.5 hours and transfer to Kyrenis 1 hour (£40 each way with car hire company). You can also fly Monarch from Birmingham from around £120 if you are flexible with your dates.....

ps - We do our bit for TRNC economy with the additional local taxis before I get hammered about supporting the north economy etc etc.....

Have been to TRNC with Turkish Airlines only once. Flight was fine and service was good. Only problem was being delayed at the start in Manchester due to fog and by the time we arrived in Istanbul we had missed the connecting flight and had to wait several hours to get on the next one. We then arrived in Ercan so late and got to the hotel in the early hours of morning that it took a couple of days to get over it all. Apart from that no complaints with the airline you can't predict the weather can you ?

All very well but as a single traveler, £45 each way for taxi fare, limited luggage allowance, drinks & food not included (Easy Jet) plus other hidden add on's, it can become more expensive than Ercan. Also, where your final port of call is in the UK takes a financial toll depending on your airport destination/arrival in further travel costs!

i am looking for flights to Ercan from London for June 2011 but both Pegasus and KTHY/Atlas have not published their timetables yet, I had an email from Pegasus saying they would be published in November. Turkish airlines price is £227 for the dates I need, one hour change over in Istanbul. total journey time over 6 hours.

Hi Lightash,

I've recently booked a flight with Turkish Airlines, flying from Ercan to Stansted via Istanbul. It is roughly about 30-45 mins wait on the plane. No get-offs.

We thought that it would be better to fly with Turkish Airlines compared to Pegasus as they provide better service and an allowance of 23 kg.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

D

Thanks Kav, I will wait a few weeks in that case.

Just out of interest, I MAY also come out in November with a friend, but as I am a Brit (my partner Turkish so won't fly into larnaca when I come with him) I may fly to Larnaca, I looked at car hire. One week with http://www.economycarrentals.com picking up car at airport costs just £45, the only problem being that they don't give you insurance when you cross the border so you have to pay about £10 at the border for 3rd party insurance when in the North. 3rd party is a bit risky I suppose, but it is a good price plus the flight is a lot cheaper too.

a-onerentacar.... they are the cheapest and the car is always very good... £25 each way for taxi, and then hire car for how many days you like ... we always rest for the first week, and a-onerentacar will bring car to you at later date of pick up...
