Please be wary;

Cigarettes and tobacco were stolen from unlocked luggage en route from Ercan to Stansted on Friday 15th October.

There are a possible of three baggage handlers involved if you changed aircraft in Turkey, if not, it's down to two, Ercan or Stansted. My money goes on Stansted. Sorry for your loss.

I agree with Scoty, only time my luggage has ever been tampered with was a UK bound flight, luckily nothing was in there but it had been broken open. And I travel constantly to loads of different countries.

By the way, the "should be locked" comments don't mean squat when it comes to zipper luggage. Check youtube for videos on how to open locked suitcases, I bet you never send anything valuable in hold baggage again if you do or you will definately upgrade to hard shell clasp locking baggage

Samsonite Oyster luggage is the one to use, or similar grade hard shell luggage.

We only use the Samsonite and Carlton suitcases because of the security locks and the hard shells. I would never leave my luggage unlocked either. The zipped suitcases are so easy to break into and I would be more worried about 'things' being put into a suitcase rather than taken too.

Call me overcautious but.........

Wowee. But I use lots of straps around mine - about three or four, all locked. Can';t afford a new super case, but the straps at least slow down anyone who would try to open the case. All they can do is open enough to put a hand inside, and it might deter a quick thief from even trying.

bUT MUST REMEMBER to put a new Samsonite case on my list for Santa Claus.

I read abook about the theft that went on in British airports, mainly Heathrow, I wish I had kept the book, it was amazing, People actually running shops and market stalls with the proceeds.

I think this was in the 70s, and 80s,

The wrap service is the way to stop any stealing of cases . I use it in and out of the UK and never have a problem with either stolen items or damaged luggage .

Ercan really ought to provide this service also a good litlle money spinner !!

The theft occurred at Ercan, the flight was delayed one hour, no changing aircraft in Turkey, and the luggage appeared within ten minutes at Stansted.

Lost luggage , when it was found and I was notified had to pick it from Ercan the next day, chocolates were missing. Very obviously tampered with, not sure where.

Posted parcel from USA,arrived damaged , items broken and one item missing.
