I know this has been discussed many times but we are driving our car over soon and would appreciate if anyone could work out how much it would cost for duty tax etc. VW Passat, 2 litre, 140 bh power. emissions c02 per km 146 per km. Also when would we pay it?

Send me the copy of your log book and I'll get it worked out for you by a commisioner.

The law says:

Any person that had spent less then 360 days in TRNC over the last 2 years is a visitor. If this applies to you, you'll get 30 days permit on arrival and 2 lots of 6 monthly permits after.

Duries due are based on the value of the car,so later the better.

All above are based on; assuming you have your own property/rental contract and residency permit.

If you need anymore info and you want to go off forum my e-mail ad is in my profile.

Regards

As suggested by Yorgozlu on a previous posting we emailed Denktash at local office - based on a 1600c.c. petrol car with value approx £10k Denktash suggested we would have to pay customs about £3,500. Based on others experiences this seemed low - does anyone know if there are additional import 'taxes'?

By the way we are also driving over next Spring (probably May) . Ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam then drive through Netherlands, Germany, Austria and then ferry from Italy to Turkey and coast road to Tasacu. If anyone wants to chat/compare notes/plans please get in touch.

Thanks Yorgozlu - car is a Ford Focus Estate first registered about 6 months ago. Would you be prepared to check import duty if I copied registration document to you next week? I know things are quite likely to change between now and our arrival next spring but it would put my good lady's mind at peace if she knew roughly what we would have to pay! Many thanks for all your information.

We have bought our maps and are working it out as we speak, I have had a few tips from people who have done this, for example avoid all contries ending with ia if you can. We would leave the from Hull with P & O and thats as far as we have got..........

Kirton, we drove over to TRNC from the UK in Sept 2007. Took 10 days to do it and thouruoghly enjoyed. Only dissappointment was ferry from Tasacu to Girne. If you can arrange an alternative crossing (ie Mersin to Famagusta) I would strongly recommend. My vivid memories of the ferry was 8 hours of living hell. Max..

Kirton, message 13 - Austria is fairly safe, has reasonable accommodation and relatively good fuel prices!
