From Guzelyurt, follow the road out of town towards Lefke. Stay on that road all the way to the border. Its about 35Km ffrom Guzelyurt to the border, and should take you about 45 minutes.

Barno (msg1): this cut out of my map of TRNC may help you find the Yeşilırmak (spelling!) border crossing. I have not yet checked the location of customs etc on location so the factual crossing may be nearer to the border. Can anyone correct me if the location of the crossing on the map is wrong? Thank you.

DC. The distance from Yesilirmak to the (north) checkpoint is 5KM. The (south) checkpoint is at the actual border of Kato Pygos village, about 2Km further on.

So do you think it is quicker that way to Pathos from Lapta area, as the roads are not great to Polis? I reckon its still as quick to go Nicosia and then to Pathos maybe?

From Lapta to Polis is about 3 and a half hours, so there's probably not much difference in the Lapta/Paphos time

From esentepe to polis 3 hrs, went girne to nicosia to geceliert. 130 mls to paphos and 3 1/2 hrs. Back via Limassol approx same milage but quicker as motorway all the way, we were lucky no traffic coming through nicosia as public holiday yesterday.

Mess 12.Just get a tourist map,all free, keep to the coast road, and do as Ian says, message 5.It's so easy not to get lost here. There is only the one road all the way from Lefke anyway, just keep going. If we ever miss our way just look for our mountain range and head for it.Once across ,the same ,follow the sea on your right.

It's a very slow road ,many bends but the view's are great.Seeing Erenkoy and the cemetary from a distance was so sad.

The greek border police weren't very nice though, bit stroppy. As for insurance to come across to the north ,they said it would be open from 8am to 6pm.Sorry can't remember if that was everyday.

Take a picnic, food was very expensive ,pitta with tuna ,8 .50 euros, all very tasty though.
