I'm having some stuff sent airfreight to Ercan. Does anyone know of anyone with a big car/small van who would go with me to collect it & take it to Lapta (for a fee of course!) would be sometime week begining 15th September.

It's actually two rolled up memory foam mattresses but they won't fit in the very small (cheap) hire car I'm hoping to get!

Hi Pipie, using a company called Intercargo. They charging £170 + £30 for collection in Lancaster - just hoping I don't get fleeced with the customs duty if any.

Windmill, good advise about roof rack, I will ask car hire chap if he can fit one.

Thanks, Maggie

when i imported things by airfreight to Ercan ,I needed a clearing agent here to process all the paper work. Hope you do not have the same problem. It was for a business though so maybe personal effects etc might be different.

Good luck

When you import anything through ports, even the smallest item, you have to fill in the paperwork and write down the correct codes and tariffs i.e. it is a job for a clearing agent unless you know what you are doing. However, when you have anything sent by post and if it is subject to customs, its the customs man who does the paperwork and you have it all easy.

Are they the toppers? If they are then you should easily be able to get into a small car. Other half took one as her luggage and that was king size (topper not wife). They do compact very well.

Hi Col

No they are the actual mattresses and they're quite huge! rolled up quite tight but still 4'6" long I've been told that if I have the waybill I should be able to collect them in person at Ercan & pay duty (if any) & clear customs myself........we shall see!

My lovely car hire man Ismail from A-one rent a car (www.a-one-rentacar.com.tr) has kindly offered to change my hire car for a bigger one so I can pick up my mattresses! (no extra charge) aren't the TCs just lovely people!

Hello Maggie,

we just went on Tuesday to Ercan to collect 17 boxes which came with Cargo from Germany.

All the paperwork we did already in Germany.

We only had to open few boxes to show that we have only personal staff inside.

We paid YTL 125 for using the place in Ercan and YTL 100 for the costums paperwork.

We had a lorry with 2 workers for the boxes and paid YTL 270,- to Girne.

If you need a number, write me a mail.

Kind regards

Kantara
