Same sort of thing may have been asked before, but could anyone tell me where I can purchase a 2.4 metre dish. The box re free channels i.e. BBC 1 2 3 4 etc., purchased in UK - also does anyone know whether the 2.4 dish would be large enough. Any idea of price? Thank you for any help.

Hi,

I have just had one fitted because I also wanted BBC channels. However for this you need the 4.2 metre dish, unfortunately, becaue they are a bit on the large size but with some careful positioning and planting you can soon make them unimposing. I bought my dish from someone called Acip. He did the complete installation, including cutting down an old tree that blocked the signal and set up all of my channels! I would definately recommend him to anyone - he is brilliant!

I have a 2.4m dish you can buy, but it will not give you the free channels mentioned.

Majority of the FTA (free) channels on 28.2E are on Astra 2D which require a 4+ meter dish in Cyprus.

The only way to get BBC1/2/3/4 via satellite is via a 4.2m - you CAN get ITV 1 on a 1.8m - but only with a SKY box and valid Freeview / subscription card - as it is scrambled..

As for the dish - Iceman is your man - Acip sometimes works for him and Iceman actually imports the dishes, and speaks PERFECT English.

NN, If any sat guy quotes you for a big dish before seeing the installation site you should NEVER let them darken your door..

Consequently, I am QUITE sure you probably 'pushed' Iceman for a ball-park figure and when he came he saw the installation would be more difficult that normal..

I would have love to have tested the signal you get compared to an Iceman one...

mess 19...........

Mark,

Iceman quoted me a price by E mail before i got to the TRNC - then he came round to my villa and jacked the price up by 300 quid, for no reason..........

And as far as getting the signal - its hardly rocket science...............

The acid test is that 3 years on - it is still standing and works..............

Dear NN,

one minute you want to be seen as the 'joker' and now you want us to take you seriously.. ?

The acid test isn't whether it is still standing - it is do you get break up in the evenings/ morning in the Summer

Folk rarely like to admit they do - the ONLY way to know it to have your signal tested on the same meter..and compared..

Nearly anyone can erect a 4.2m and make it stay up - it has to be a perfect parabolic shape ( hard to get exactly right) and have the correct focal length, LNB skew, etc.

Iceman is FAR too smart to quote without seeing the installation - only an IDIOT would do that..

OK...now where shall i start to reply to you Mr negativedick? or shall i call you JOHNBOY3739W?

Lets start with the mails we exchanged (which i still keep, and anyone that doubts what i say is welcomed to read them...just ask and i'll forward)

According to my logs, between 18 March 2006 and 1 May 2007 we exchanged 61 (sixty one) mails..yes sixty one..you mailed me 31 times and i replied back to you 30 times.

In these mails you i have answered your many queries about TV and internet reception in Cyprus.

You asked for my previous customers mails so you can contact them and verify what i told you..i provided.

You asked me to visit the construction site in Esentepe to do a site survey..i did.

You asked me to meet your builders electrician on site to explain how to do the conduit layout..i did

you asked me to meet your builder on site to arrange for the concrete base for the dish..i did

to be continued.........

In total, i made 7 trips to your building site in Esentepe to arrange for all the above..

I took photos of your house, living room, garden and mailed back to you in my reports explaining in detail what i proposed to do..(according to your instructions)

I quoted you the price for both 1.5m and 4.2m dishes after i did all the above..

On my last visit to the site, we met for the first time when you came with your wife.

If you remember at this meeting you and your wife insisted you wanted to have additional connections to upstairs bedrooms and i told you, although this was difficult, it was possible at an additional cost.

I never ever heard from you after that Mr Negativedick...

I can understand you are free to shop around for the cheapest price on the market but you could have had the decency to turn around to me and say "look Mustafa,i have been offered this dish for couple of hundred quid less and i am going to take this offer..thank you for all you did for me"

to be cont

I honestly did expect at least a "thank you" after al the trouble i went for you..

but, never mind the "thank you" you spend your time on the internet nowadays slagging me off!!

Now..you say your dish which you had installed couple of quid cheaper has been working OK..

You are lying, because i know for a fact from day one it NEVER worked properly..

how i know? the guys who installed it for you came to me for help when they couldnt make it work.

I know Acip (satman) was called on site by your neighbour (which you gave a line from your dish) to fix the ongoing problem.

Your wife called me few months ago saying the dish never worked properly from day one and it was loosing channels at certain times of the day..asked me to go and fix it.

My answer to her was that the dish was not installed as it should have been and had to be dismantled and reconstructed from scratch to fix the problem.

She did not like the quoted price for the job so that was the last i heard from her.

hi iceman, came by and saw your son and he kindly gave me your numbers

was hoping to meet up with you regarding more infor regarding installing a 1.8 meter dish

I intend to install back in the UK in my business a sky system then bring the sky box with me back to lapta

to enjoy the programmes here in cyprus does the card need a subscription with all the extras or does the card need just the basic contract to enjoy all the availibilities here

we have chatted before on this

I assume everyone brings their box with them and return with the box due to the telephone connection

I also read that some sell their box with card here ,here's where the confusion sets in!

my number here is 05338 820123

I have decided to opt out of dobi next april

thanks basheer
