This board does not allow the members to upload pictures, graphics, drawings etc. So the only way to show them is an upload to another server with a link on this board. I usually make such a (often long) link a shortened URL, like this: [ http://is.gd/hGWNr ]. However statistics show me that on average only half of the people that opened the thread also click on the link - so why did they open the thread at all? P.S. If you are very careful or mistrusting and first want to check to which webpage a (my) link points, you can copy my link into a new window of your browser including the -sign at the end, like this: [ http://is.gd/hGWNr- ] and you'll see that the link is safe. P.P.S. The question remains: why open a thread (clicking on the Subject title) and then don't click the link to view a picture or read a scanned article? Serious answers appreciated!

Hans I looked in and out of interest opened the link. Yet another waste of time referring to an item that has been covered in detail elsewhere. So many threads have an obscure header which leads to yet another often covered topic, that terminal boredom sets in within seconds. If posters want to include a link, maybe they should at least give an idea of what the link is about, rather than just 'you must read this,...'.

RE msg 8, gromit: (...) So many threads have an obscure header which leads to yet another often covered topic, that terminal boredom sets in within seconds. (...) ▶ I'm afraid your profile (Location: Atlantis, profession: inventor) is more obscure than most Subject titles here. And, I'll speak for myself: my Subject titles (the headers) always indicate the content of the message - like a good header in a news paper or on a Bulletin Board should. So what is your point? ___________________________________________ Think different (the best ever Apple slogan)

Hans Does this thread refer directly to the lack of engagement on your own threads, or those of others? p.s. Your subject title on this thread did not refer to the subject of the link. I presume that was your intention. p.p.s. 'Think different' is gramatically incorrect.

RE msg 11, gromit: (...) p.p.s. 'Think different' is gramatically incorrect. (...) ▶ That may be so - but Apple makes a lot more money than you do. If you don't understand that I gave the link in message 1 as an example you must be stupid or worse. Do me a favour - stay away from this thread. P.S. You are a liar, in your profile and I don't like to discuss anything with liars here. ___________________________________________ Think different (the best ever Apple slogan)

hans I know you are an intelligent and informed man. so I am quite surprised by your petulance. I made no sarcastic or personal comments in my posts, but am being called a liar by you. I have no interest in bickering and in fact there are subjects that you and I could discuss with knowledge and detail. There are often serious reasons why some choose to use certain personal info on an open BB. I would like to think we could both post on relevant subjects in the future.

Gromit you are wasting your time...if you look up pedantic in a dictionary, you will find a rather fetching picture of Hans... It really doesn't matter if the sky is blue, or green with polka dots...you will always be wrong, that's what happens with self important people! Let it go...it's not worth the cyber minute it will take up DD

Re : Msg14, DC, if I were you, I'd consider this thread to be a success simply on the ground that some members have consulted the dictionary and have learned the meaning of the word "pedantic". Bravo! Education to the masses!

DC why are you so upset about people not clicking on your little links? do you make money from your website adverts? is that what you are on about? just like Cyp44, otherwise I can not see what on earth you can be talking about. If people wish to click it is entirely up to themselves.

The conclusion is that if you ask a question, you have to be prepared for answers you don't like. If you then start calling such posters liars, stupid or in mental poverty,... You've lost any argument or mental high ground you thought you had. If you want to 'dish it', you've got to be mature enough to 'take it'.

I give up. If you don't understand that webmasters like to know why people do or don't click on a link to a certain page with certain content - then this was the wrong place to ask the question. Because it obviously attracted the attention of some ignorant people. Proof above, excluding Fukace in msg 2 and Clarissa2 in msg 18 (Zuviel Dummköpfe hier!). Keep the thread alive if it pleases you - but without me. Bye.

You guys are something else. A person put up a reasonable question and you go out of your way to find fault and to be abusive. There are a lot of constructive things you could be doing instead. Perhaps the adults amongst us will already know that.

Hans. As you know I'm not computer literate however I have a question for you. Could the answer to your question -(P.P.S. The question remains: why open a thread (clicking on the Subject title) and then don't click the link to view a picture or read a scanned article? ) - be a simple answer that some people have 'slow' computers that take so long to upload a picture that they can't be bothered to wait? You can tell me if I'm thick, I don't mind.

Hi Bill! Why call you thick when you come up with a normal answer/question? But you miss the point. The point is: half of the viewers of a post (with a link) on C44 don't click the link - so they never view the page the link is pointing to. They just quit after reading the Subject title that obviously interested them enough to open the post! And for 'slow' computers: my statistics tell me the Operating System visitors to my site use on their computers. Very few of them still use an old(er) version of Windows. And the new(est) OS's only run on rather modern computers that have no problem to download a picture or other graphic. That's why I asked the question etc. Thanks for thinking about it! Regards, DC.

Pugwash - it was a perfectly reasonable question. Your obsession that Hans might be making something out of it (you've referred to this in at least two threads and possibly more) sounds to me like harassment. Perhaps you need some help or at least to get out more.
