Hello All, my wife and I were in TRNC for 1 week (17th to 24th) August specifically to buy furniture for our Apartment in Lapta. We were going to go to the other side with a friend to buy some stuff (Cheaper) but NO we decided to support the local economy after all that's where we are going to stay. The following shops were where we bought our stuff.

1. Lounge Curtains, Poles and Tie backs....Roman Blinds in 2 bedrooms.

THE CURTAIN SHOP. We chose and ordered our material on Tuesady, everything supplied and fitted to our complete satisfaction on Thursday Afternoon. DO NOT PASS THIS SHOP BY IF YOU WANT CURTAINS.

2. We bought a Double Bed with Storage underneath and a Sofa Bed from the shop directly across the road from the Curtain Shop (next door to Fiskos) Ordered and paid on Tuesday delivered by Ali the shop owner on Thursday. Whilst taking delivery of the Sofa Bed, one of the arms got caught on a door Frame and got broken. Ali promised to sort it out ASAP. He delivered and fitted the replacement later on Thursday Evening.

3. Lounge Suite and MADE TO ORDER Lounge wall/floor unit supplied and fitted by Cyprus Home Furniture. Wall unit was chosen out af a fancy catalogue, and a copy was made, for an amazing price. The unit was made in 3 days and the guys came and fitted it on Saturday morning, no fuss no mess.

4. Fridge Freezer and Washing Machine supplied by Beko

5. We bought our Oven/Hob and dishwasher from Arcelik in MARCH, and they promised when we returned they would send a technician to fit them....which they did NO PROBLEM.

6. We decided to remodel the Bathroom slightly and have a Vanity Unit/Cupboard fitted to replace the Washand basin. We bought the unit from The Bathroom Shop next to the Butchers across from the Lady Statue at Alsancak/Lapta Turn off. When they arrived to fit, they noticed that my Bath Panel was scratched and hadn't been fitted properly. They supplied and fitted a replacement FOC (the original was fitted by developer) Mohamed Ali (Not Kidding) fitted our bedroom light fitting which we bought from Regal next to Astro Supermarket (Sandi, just had to have THAT Light Fitting as it mached bed etc)

7. Bedding was bought from Curtain Shop as well, Egyptian Cotton fitted sheet and top sheet. Bed throw and Pillow slips, was bought from the bedding shop going out of Lapta, over the roundabout and heading to wards the New Harbour. The EXACT one that Sandi had to have was on the Bed display in the window. They had no stock but sold us the MODEL at 25% discount.

8. Our Marble/Wrought Iron Terrace Furniture was bought at Homefront. We bought a customers cancelled order, including seat cushions at a reduced price. Well done to Sherrif, the salesman.

We also bought other nick nacks from various stores, too numerous to mention, we did get decent quality rugs for the bedrooms at the Wewdnesday Bazaar.

Although our Buying experience was not cheap, ALL of the aforementioned shops and people are absolute Hero's. The experience was stress free, surprisingly most of the suppliers arrived exactly when they said they would, those that didn't called us up to make additional arrangements. The level of service we experienced was the type you got in the UK 30 years ago. The workmen that came and fitted things, swept up and kept the place tidy (except Arcilik, demerit of 100 Brownie points !!!)

Long live the TRNC and all of the wonderful genuine people who fastidiously go about their work with care and passion (and a few laughs in between).

Littlenige, sorry I never got in touch, the week was HECTIC to say the least, and I do owe you a beer for your kind offer to take us to buy a bed in your Estate Car. (thank you for that)

AND LASTLY.

To Fethi and his Mum Mary who run the Lapida Hotel in Lapta for looking after us. We spent the week there, and Fethi (who has now become a friend) let us return

Excellent post thanks. We bought all our stuff locally (2-3 years ago now) and have never been disappointed. It's great to know that other people are supporting the local economy.

We bought most with us in container. However since then have bought all our house hold things here.

There is no need to go south, especially with the shocking rate of exchange now, quality goods at sensible prices are available if you shop around. No different to UK in that sense. Just keep away from anywhere that indicates supporting the UK community, they will gladly take all your hard earned cash.
