Called down there on Sunday to walk the dogs only go in winter, cannot get access to car park, metal bar across entrance, cannot get to beach unless you gain access from boat shed, there are two big pontons built out to sea, just waiting to see when a new hotel springs up, signs say you cannot bring your own food and drink onto beach, by order of escape beach club, is this a legal company ? i thought most beaches were goverment controlled, maybe im wrong

I don't think so - all beaches are public.

Stan Msg 1 + 12 - Simple answer - As far as I know the beaches (unless privately made as they are in many hotels) are public property. They can be rented and the renter can offer facilities such as cafe, cleaning, car park, loungers etc so can charge for the use of but if the "owners" are not there and maintaining the facilities they can't object to you using the beach (not their facilities though). I repeat as far as I know.

It does not matter who does what, all the coast of the country is public property and is not owned by any hotel. If they spend money on land that does not belong to them, it is their problem. They cannot legally stop people using it. But they can stop people walking through their property to get to it.

There are a couple of private beaches... one owned by the Celebrity hotel and one other in that area (they were fully TC owned before 1974) but not Escape. The military control access to some regarded as militarily sensitive to invasion/landings. The beaches on 49 year leases are just that, leased. They have no right to prevent public access to the sea.

However, it is illegal to walk dogs on any public beach. They don't enforce this ban but it exists none the less.

I drove down there last weekend, no problems, took dog and kids down there. I went in through the second entrance though, the diving centre end.
