Malcolm, for goodness sake, how many of you are there? You know the size of our car, if it is big enough, we dont charge friends.

It's about time somebody started a club... where no fees are charged and points are earned and these can be 'cashed-in' for a free pick-up and/or drop-off...

Take someone at 2am and it earns 15 points....

15 points = one way trip between hours of 11pm and 5 am (either pick-up or drop off)

Take someone between 5am and 11pm and it earns 10 points....

10 points = one way trip between hours of 5am and 11pm (either pick-up or drop off)

You join the club... take people when you can earn some points and they reciprocate... there is a lot of trust but no money changes hands. If you join and someone has points you must try to help of the whole thing collapses due to lack of trust.

▶ Best price I've seen yet! A phone number to put in my address book. And you're sure he's a licensed taxi driver? (RE: the headline of this thread!).

I think that Groucho is about right. I know taxi drivers want to make a living, but all that extra money to and from airports is de trop. Not so long ago one could take one's own car and park up for nothing at Ercan - now it is getting impossible.

Other places I have lived abroad had the very system of which GTroucho spoke, except we just paid for the petrol each time regardless of numbers in car. The drivers were quaintly called 'friends'. Not a lot about, but a mutual pointed backscratching could be a good replacement.

So who is Halil?

thanks everyone, I've now found a lift but I love Groucho's idea and wondered if anyone is interested in expanding it further to includes other skills. This idea comes from Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS) as described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_Exchange_Trading_Systems

I love the idea of the LETS scheme.

I do not understand why it is £40 to Ercan when it is only £50 to Larnaca and thats a hell of a lot further.

Please contact me if such a scheme starts - will it only be Ercan or will it also be Larnaca, the thing there is that we will have to insure our cars to do that so it is possibly a non-starter. Oh well, I can dream can't I?

I had friends who started up a LETS, but I had nothing to offer. Still don't really, but if anyone has carpentry skills and need plumbing ones, it is terrific. Or maybe just a system of offering lifts. BUT I fear there could soon be an outcry that Brits are robbing locals of their income by doing them out of a job.

As long as one doesn't mind that! How about Mal and the Free Press being the start up????
