Hi Pipie

We fly via Turkish Airlines all the time. We do the Manchester/Istanbul/Ercan

Great flights, loads of leg room, free drinks and snacks. On board entertainment (and no you don't have to pay for the headphones).

Disembark at Istanbul and go via 'transit' so you don't need to pay the entry £10.00 fee. We think Istanbul is a good size airport - with the all important 'Starbucks' coffee.

Then onto Ercan.

We have never been delayed. Altogether 10 out of 10 !

hi there. i flew with turkish cyprus airlines from manchester to ercan via istanbul 2 weeks ago and i didn't even have to get off the plane, so i don't understand why you have to disembark. We were only on runway for about 40 mins to let passengers off and on.

bye the way, the foods good!!!!

I think it depends on the type of flights that you book. Ours are always 'connection' flights. meaning, that we have two different flights. I think it depends on the time and day that you fly.

Just a matter of thought - uzhan and simabs - where do you book your flights from. We have never been able to stay on the flight!

We book via ebookers, and they only allow us the option of connection flights???

Turkish Airlines to Heathrow, leaves Ercan in the early morning. You HAVE to disembark and get on another plane. Sometimes the changover times are tight, but the baggage is booked in all the way through at Ercan and as previously stated, food and drink is very good. The service is excellent, and the staff smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, leaving a London airport, you HAVE to disembark and change planes. Well worth paying the extra money for this flight with a reputable airline which has one of the youngest fleets nin the world.

Hi all

I have flown Turkish Airlines many times from Stanstead never got of plane.

They seem to have a good system of putting all Ercan bound at the back

Hi Pipie,

Done Manchester/Istanbul/Ercan many times, no problems, much better flights than CTA. I book through Thomas Cook.

Hi Two different Airlines

Turkish Airlines

Cyprus Turkish Airlines

Different in many ways CTA or KTHY is the North Cyprus "flag carrier" and flies "direct"

Tom

IAH Ltd

Like most agents who specialise in TRNC & Turkey we can get you both or Pegasus also into Ercan as well as other flights into the ROC.

Hi Pipie

I think some folk are mixed up over the Airlines. As far as I know if you fly with Turkish Airlines (TK flight no) you have to disembark & change planes in Istanbul/Dalaman/Antalya or wherever then board the flight for Ercan. If you're flying with Cypriot Turkish Airlines (KTHY with CTA flight No) You remain on the plane on the runway while it refuels then onward to Ercan. I think I'm right but no doubt someone will let me know if I've got it wrong (wink)

Thanks Maggie and Bernie ...

We have being flying Turkish Airlines for the past 5 years, and have always had to disembark. The two flights are different flights, different flight numbers, and the stop-over can be as little as 1 hour to up to 6/7hours depending on where you originate from.

We used to fly by CTA or KTHY, and this is the one that allows you stay on the runway, but in my opinion, these flights are not as good as the Turkish Airlines. Especially from Manchester, they have set times - Wednesday and Saturdays. And in winter Saturday - Saturday only.

Thankyou for clearing this up Maggie - I know my airlines!

Hi Chickadee,

I've done both and I agree with you Turkish Airlines are better - and it's nice to get off & stretch your legs in Turkey! I'm coming out there on Saturday but having to use KTHY as it was the only one I could get..so, no in flight entertainment, and a long wait on the plane - still, the thought of all that sunshine....will keep me smiling the whole way!!

Hi All

I am not confused. I have flown with Turkish Airlines and CTA from Stanstead.

The only time I got of plane was with CTA,our tickets said Antalya most surprised when we landed Istanbul. It was a couple of years ago when All Airports were on high alert so whether the was some security alert I dont know but we were well screened when we reboarded.

I think I could find you 4 indirect (1 plane change in Istanbul) flights a week to both destinations.

We have flown many times with both airlines from Manchester and Stansted - as everyone else has stated with CTA we've always stayed on the plane - with Turkish a mixture of both from either airport. The only problem going through Istanbul airport is before you join the queue to get through the transit ticket desk look out for the seperate checking area where you have to have your passport checked if it's either UK or USA - they put a sticker on the back of your passport to prove they've checked it - if it's not there they send you back which can be frustrating if the transit queue is long - Otherwise Istanbul is great and can break the flight. You'll normally know if you're staying on the plane if the time difference between arrival of first flight and departure of second flight is exactly one hour.

Credit where credit is due

Just flown Turkish Airlines from Ercan to Manchester, had to change at Istanbul but it wasn't so bad. I have to say the Istanbul to Manchester flight was really comfortable and the food was excellent. There is free bar . In th past I have flown to Larnaca, really cramped, rubbish meals and highly inflated drinls prices.

Never fly with anyone else now if I can help it.

Well done Turkish Airlines

I have just booked a flight with CTA from Ercan to Istanbul and then Turkish Airlines from Istanbul to Barcelona.

I have a query as to whether it is best to state when i initially check in that I have a connecting flight so that they will automatically transfer my luggage, or whether it is best to collect it myself and check it in again in istanbul?

Also as I am not staying in Istanbul I don't really want to pay for the £10 visa.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have used Turkish Airlines from Stansted and have always had to disembark at Istanbul and board another plane. Also the timings out of Stansted are later now so I think the transit flight can be the next day as only 1 hour between otherwise and no time for delays. The better airline but they are more expensive. Sandie

Sandie, I'm coming over on Turkish next week from Manchester.

I paid £260. At the time I booked CTA were asking £401.

Pegasus is not an option for those of us who live up north because of cost and time getting to Stansted.

Tony - That was a good price. At the moment I am only 15 minutes from Stansted so am fortunate to have the 3 choices. Enjoy your visit next week. Sandie

Rosieposie Msg 25,

Sorry but I think as you are using two airlines you will not be able to have the bags transhipped and may have to collect them and check in again. I am not sure as to the transit rules but I suspect that it is not in your favour. I hope that you have plenty of time between the flights.

If people book with us we always try to keep you to one airline all the way.

Hi

We too are flying from Manchester to Ercan with Turkish Airlines for the first time in a few weeks. Always used CTA until last flight home which was so bad, cramped, worn out seats....and I'm only 5 foot tall, so don't know how others taller than me managed. Decided it was time to opt for a change. Our tickets were much cheaper also at £260 each, booked online. Will also have a go at online check in nearer the time. Never done that before either! Looking forward to a change and the positive feedback on earlier posts well received.

Julie
