I have had a TRNC driving licence for 5 years. When applying I did not need to take a test - I just showed my UK licence. However, my TRNC licence is due for renewal and my old UK paper licence has literally disintegrated and I cannot renew it because I don't have a UK address any more.

1. Do I need to show my UK licence for a renewal or was that just for the first application ?

2. If so (and I cannot) then presumably I need to take a driving test instead - so how do I go about it?

You dont need your UK licence once you have had a TRNC licence.

If I have a UK licence do I actually need a TRNC licence? I am still on English plates so pretty sure UK licence is ok until I have Cypriot plates. However I have been told by a Cyoriot that my UK one will be fine with Cyptriot plates. Is anyone else driving with only UK licence?

You're OK on a UK licence while you are driving a foreign plated car. If you use a TRNC reg. vehicle you must get a TRNC licence if you are staying for longer than the initial 90 day visa period. Your TRNC insurance will not cover you if you are involved in an accident if you continue to drive on a UK licence.
