There is a reason why Pit bulls are amongst four dogs named in The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, that covers dog ownership in the UK. This act bans the breeding and sale or exchange of four kinds of dog - pit bull terriers, Japanese Tosas, the Dogo Argentinos, and the Fila Brasileiros. It is because young single males oftentimes see them as a macho simble (though plenty of families and women also own them). It is rare for any dog owner to admit that their animal could be a killer - don't we all hear "would never harm a child, would never bite anyone, gentle as a lamb" et cetera......well, they would say that UNTIL the day, their dog bites, maims or kills - too late then. Last year when I was in hospital, the middle aged woman opposite me was in with a huge chunk ripped out of her by her son's dog, she lived with her son, and the two of them had had the dog for three years. Her son was out - she had been dozing on the sofa, awoke and stood up, and the animal attacked for NO reason

The son had the animal destroyed, but every day when he visited his mother - he was beside himself with shock and grief - as was his mother. I cannot understand why anyone would want a Pitbull - it is not their fault, that their aggressive gene has been bred further along the line........

well thats not fair on those dogs just because couple of them has attacked people you clasify them as dangereus and say that i shouldnt get one, but is that fair NO i dont think so its just the way you bring them up if you bring them up raugh then they will be very rough but if you bring them up as a kid then they wont go round biting people, but dont judge them as dangerous as they are not dangerous and i want a puppy and bring it up as an angel.

Hi this poster has also asked for Staffordshire bull terriers which the local gangs in this area use to intimidate people and it is thought that some of them have been crossed with Pitbulls a very nasty combination in my opinion.

I do have a staffi but no way would I give him to anyone I thought may use him for fighting. He is so soft and gentle more so than any of the dogs which adopted me here. When we came here my son rang me to say he was offered 200 pounds for him. I asked him to check the people out. They lived on one of the roughest council estates in europe (in Wales). As it turned out they were done for fighting dogs. I cant bear this as they can be trained and to my mind they are almost human

i understand anyone wanting a particular breed of dog, but a pitbull that is well known for its aggressive behaviour (be it not the dogs fault) is crazy. Please just adopt one of the many abandoned beautiful dogs that are homeless through no fault if its own, not only will they be an angel but will think your one to. Good Luck

Well said bazzagirl, exactly right. Please don't lets make TRNC same as UK. The Dangerous Dogs Act was made for a valid reason. The dogs named in it are innately dangerous and whether you treat it like a baby or an angel it will still turn round and bite you in the bum because that's what they are bred to do. Please give a home to a loving stray that will reward you with affection at all times.

re message 12 -

''why are people making a big deal out of it all i wanted to know is if anyone knows or wants to give away a pitbull puppy so back to the top. ''

It is my understanding that in North Cyprus these dogs are illegal ( hence message 11 )

In which case it is a big deal - as any illegal dog - faces the ultimate penalty of being destroyed!!!! Not to mention that it may well be an aggressive animal

Not to be confused with a Staffordshire bull terrier ( pedigree staffs are absolutely beautiful animals )

bandibilly, pitfalls are a time bomb, just like a bull, they are never to be trusted.

Do you have children? if you do then you are being very irresponsible.

In fact you are being very irresponsible to even contemplate having one of these dogs especially in NC, where so many dogs are kept then let loose to wander.

An accident waiting to happen, either you are very unkind or just don't realise how upsetting a dog like that could cause your neighbours.

Please think again and show that you do have respect for others..

My eldest daughter had the most beautiful Staffi, his providence was traced way way back . He was stunning Bismark was his name. She got pregnant with my first grandson and within two weeks they sold him because they read reports about jealous dogs etc.Well they had another my lovely Dexter. When he was two he wanted a dog. Guess what they got another pure staffi. Glad to say another baby born and Roger the dog still lives with them. A wonderful dog he is and he is more scared of my grandkids than they are of him. We got burgled before we came here , my darling daughter made me take a dog a staffi. We searched high and low and got my Mojo. I love him with my heart and soul.I would rather leave Guido than leave him xxxx

Princess Anne was the first member of the Royal Family to be taken to Court (next town to here, in Slough) because her Staffi bit a child in Windsor Great Park - she was found guilty as the dog's owner, and fined. Strange to be taken to Court to uhhold the laws made in the name of your mother (the Monarch) ironic eh?

Not all Staffs are dangerous - but the gene pool of any animal dictates their behaviour and disposition - ANY dog is unpredictable, every dog on this planet has the potential to attack - every owner says their animal is trustworthy, but how do they know - just because they haven't been savaged, what will 'turn' their animal on any given day

Sorry Lili but i fail to understand where you ar coming from on your last post, i thought we were talking about pitbull terriers, no one has stated that staffies are a dangerous dog, i have 3 dogs myself and love and trust them impliicitly, any dog can turn at any time ie it might have a wound that u touch by accident and because youve accdiently hurt it it might cause the dog to snap at you. But some dogs are more dangerous than others due to there inbred instincts and dangerous dogs do not have this label for no reason, a pitbull is one of these listed breeds. All my children were brought up with dogs and they guarded them more than any human could. But we must never forget some dogs are killers and hopefully in the future these breeds will become extinct.

I know somebody who had a pitbull from a 6 week old puppy. It was a lovely friendly dog.

They had it for 5 years then one day it went for one of the kids. Luckily my friend was there at the time so managed to pull it away from the child.

Those dogs are just too dangerous, too unpredictable and should be wiped out.

I've never heard a single case of one of them dogs going through a full life without doing something horrific

Its such a shame that some people just have to have what they WANT and just do not seem to look any further, and some dogs get pushed from pillar to post like some children who suffer in foster care. If only people could be loving of everyone and everything !

Bandabilly, think by your actions on this forum nobody would consider selling or giving you a dog at all. Please come and visit us or KAR to see many beautiful dogs who are not for sale but just need caring homes.

by doing this he would treat u as an angel....

The country has to many dogs / cats in need why pay out money for one when you could adopt one and give it a careing home???

Go to KAR and pick up a pup from there

It will also make u feel really good aswell...

Kaiserphil, messsage 42.

Unfortunately, I do not know what happened to Uncle Ted - possibly still on a worldwide book tour?

I don't think we should go down this route again; we'll have to don our hard hats and prepare for much flak, I fear.

Hope all is well with you.

Still not sure if there are laws in TRNC concerning owning dangerous dogs (Msg 9). Is the evil practice of dog fighting illegal in TRNC? Heard that someone in TRNC is crossing Rotts with Pitbulls which seems to me to be a disaster waiting to happen especially as you know that eventually many will end up roaming wild.
