Good question. Perhaps because it's cheap?

Renting is very popular in the U.K. as well, due to the stagnant property market,

Cheaper than the South or Spain, or Turkey or Malta or anywhere on the Med?

I have rented apartments/houses in many places, TRNC seems to be comparable to most places as far as rental prices are concerned, especially when travel prices are added.

My query is in relation to the rent don't buy argument for retirement in the TRNC and why choose NC once the lure of buying cheap property is taken out of the equation.

Why should anybody sell it to you? What made you interested in NC in the first place?

Cheap property, yet, you yourselves tell me not to buy so I wonder what it leaves because the weather is the same across the line.

Roomy,

Give us a lot more information about yourself, your circumstances, and what exactly you are looking for in your potential retirement place and then people on here could advise you whether you would be better off in the TRNC or as you put it "across the line".

I'm sure you would be happy in the RoC.

And I'll beg to differ about great minds after reading all the silly vendettas and childish insulting posts some of you feel the need to write in defense of your insular selves, if you have nothing constructive to add please leave it to the grown ups.I am enquiring about a life changing decision here, not trying to take sides in some nondescript handbag fight.Thankyou very much.

Sorry if my post annoyed you but I am confused as to why you are being so defensive. You say you are interested in buying in NC but then seem to be coming up with lots of reasons not to and asking the forum to "sell it to me". You haven't said what attracts you to NC or what you are looking for in your retirement so it is difficult for people to give you an informed opinion. If you are happy with the South (or any of the other places you have mentioned) then why not just settle in one of them. Again, what is it about NC that interests you?

I am defending myself against attack, I told you it was the cheap property that grabbed my attention above anything else, once you take that away as you quickly and almost to a man/woman did, what is left?

Simple question, harder to answer than I would have thought it seems.

I don't think you are being attacked but you seem to have done no research at all other than to find out the price of property and it would appear this is the only reason you are interested in NC. You continue to not say what it is you are looking for in your retirement but want people to list all the reasons why you should retire here without knowing anything about you and your desired lifestyle. If you like a gamble then by all means buy. It is a beautiful part of the world, the weather is great as are the people and the food. But you know all this already. If you can rent a 3 bed villa with private pool for £400 a month elsewhere in the Med then you probably should as maybe NC will not live up to your expectations (whatever they are).

Anyway, I'm off to bed now so I will wish you good night and good luck with your research. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Roomy, there is no other way then spending some time there.

There are some of us who wish we never left to live in a third world country.

Lately there have been a number of 1st postings on C44 asking the same questions about moving to NC,usually never been to NC, same people different names? I wonder. Advice starts to be given and usually ends up with bickering and arguing, maybe this person or people get a kick out of this.

I too wonder why you are so defensive. You will find on this forum that opinions differ on whether it is best to buy here or rent. For me the latter makes much more sense as you have the freedom to up sticks and leave at a time of your own choosing, rather than being left with the problem of selling an 'investment' in a depressed market.

If it is only the thought of buying a cheap property that has attracted you to N Cyprus, then maybe you should give much deeper thought to your ultimate decision. Rather than just the purchase/rental cost of a property, I would politely suggest that all the other 'lifestyle' issues associated with living in N Cyprus need due consideration. Living costs, schooling, healthcare to name just a few.

Regards

Paul

Instead of asking questions on this forum, the only way really to find out what YOU are looking for and what suits YOUR interrests is to come out here to the TRNC, rent a property for the period of your investigations; ask many local and people who have chosen to buy and live here, and then make YOUR OWN informed decision, which suit YOUR purposes. We have made our choices for our own reasons, they may be totally different than your reasons.

I wish you all the best in your dilemma.

Gerry
