My parents are coming to visit me from UK in Sept, they 82 and 79 yrs old.

(We ourselves are only moving to the North in a month or 2 and coming from Qatar, which is why I need to ask )

My dad seems to think that the airlines only offer flights to the North as a package holiday, which is not what we want. So now they are looking in to coming to Larnaca.

Surely there is a way, from UK, a direct flight, into Ercan without having to involve hotels etc?

Pegasus airlines from Stanstead to Ercan but you have a 45min stop in turkey. Normally you just stay on the plane and then arrive in Ercan about 1 hr later.

They can try Pegasus airlines. They have flights to North Cyprus and you dont have to buy a package holiday with it. All airlines that land to North Cyprus stop by in Turkey first and continue transit to North Cyprus. You do not have to change planes with Pegasus airlines.

Onur air will also be starting to fly to North Cyprus soon. They could also check Onur airlines.

My mother is 83 and has flown with Turkish airlines from Manchester and is full of praise for the standard of accommodation and service on flights. Direct flights are not possible into the north (on Turkish airline website it's down as Lefkosia, but the airport is Ercan) so a stopover is required in Istanbul. Your parents will have to get off the plane and go into the airport terminal. but because it is a transit flight no visa has to be obtained as they stay within the airport, and their baggage will be taken care of. The stopover does make it a long journey, and they may prefer the shorter flight to Larnaca and then the journey of about one hour by car to North Cyprus. Organising a taxi pick-up at Larnaca can be easily arranged on this site - just ask.

there are no direct flights to northern cyprus - we have tried the ercan route but it takes a lot longer with your stop off in turkey - although you dont need to get off the plane you are just sitting there for however long it takes - we always fly to Larnaca and sort out transfers to the north about just over an hour to Kyrenia - hope this helps

Hi Lucie, there are many travel agents that can book a flight only for you. You do not have to book a whole package deal just to get to Northern Cyprus.

I do no that Cyprus Direct Holidays are doing good flight prices to the North and South side. My sister has just booked a flight for the summer with a woman called Norma on cyprusdirect@btconnect.com or 0239 223 0030. Hope this helps x

We find flying into Larnaca very simple, most airports have seats only. Try Thompsons and Thomas Cook, they fly from a lot of airports in September.

We book a flight one way from GB, a flight back to day that suites us. a1rentacar will do a taxi service any where on the Island from Larnaca, they have never let us down picking us up from Larnaca then back to Lapta NC.

My Mother is 89 and flew out last October, flew with Thomas Cook from Bristol to Larnaca. Her insurance was more than the cost of the flight. We were able to sort it all out online from here. We arranged Transfers with A One Car rental for £25 each way when we hired a car as well. The Transfer was by Mercedes and right to the door, no problem.

Lucie you have not said from where they want to fly from ? And although they may not like the idea get them to book as unaccompanied elderly please as this is such a big help for them..They will be collected in chairs if they wont like that at least get one to ask as they are well looked after..they are taken onto the plane first.and will be helped with their bags too at both ends..this saves them the worry.. Good luck.

Also Lucie they could always fly to the south side and you could arrange for them to be picked up by Taxi a door to door service for them both and very well looked after by the airline staff...Think about it at their age peace of mind and less worry is needed.

Hi Lucie

Spider is spot on with her advice. Get your parents on a good flight into Larnaca and arrange a Taxi transfer from the North to pick them up from Larnaca in the South, who will take care of them crossing the border with passports and paper work, and then take them direcly to your address in North Cyprus.

It is very easy and stress free.

Best Regards

Saffi

One of my relatives is in their 80's and always fly to Ercan. ?Sitting on the ground in Turkey is no problem, and landing in Ercanmeans they are not far from Kyrenia. flying in to Larnaca means all the extra time of getting over the border. It also means that one is supporrting the North and it is a bit of a loyalty thing for some people.

So it is really not so much age as what is most convenient to the flyer. Ercan will help with wheelchairs and give priority to the olderly, and of course there are no escalators or stairs etc, other than those off the plane itself.

Hope they have a good journey.

As has bene said, Pegasus, Onur and another new one starting this month - all offer reasonable deals, and one further thing, the baggage allowance with Pegasus is FAR better than Monarch etc.
