Prime Minister İrsen Küçük has announced his government’s readiness to provide all necessary support for the launch of charter flights to and from the Geçitkale Airport.

Speaking on a program broadcast on Bayrak Haber this morning, Prime Minister Isen Küçük underlined the significant role of air travel in the TRNC and reminded that air companies willing to launch flights to and from the Ercan Airport in 2011 were granted permission.

Responding to a question on Onur Air’s proposal to open the Geçitkale Airport for charter flights, he said his government was ready to provide support for the realization of the project.

He announced that technical arrangements at the Geçitkale Airport had already been started to allow flights to take place.

As for the tourism sector, Küçük said that the government has been taking initiatives towards developing the tourism sector of the TRNC, following the declaration of 2011 as the TRNC year of tourism in Turkey.

The Premier noted that there are plans to establish a tourism department under the Prime Ministry with the aim of assisting the goals of the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture.

And here. Who's work is this that you have reproduced No1Doyen, presumably without their permission and without giving them any credit for it.

Thank you.

Being cynical and playing devil's advocate, that suggests the tourism ministry can't do its job. The minister has just been kicked back to his education role. The prime ministry gives permission for hotels, not the tourism ministry. Why have a tourism ministry at all?

And gecitkale? They still haven't removed the electricity pylons. There is plenty of space (in terms of times and actual space) at Ercan, so why use two airports? Larnaca manages both, as does Paphos. There isn't much distance between Ercan and Gecitkale, so I don't understand.

Unless it's a chance for the government to spend more money it doesn't have on white elephant schemes it doesn't need to.
