Can anyone tell me there favourite beaches, bringing out a kayak and may do some fishing from it. Also the charges to use them. I went to escape beach over the summer and I think the charge was 15ytl? is this the norm, can work out expensive for a family over the summer. Thanks.

Hi james

You have to try Golden Beach on the Karapz. Simply awesome. It is free and at the time I went there were only about 20 people. I should imagine it would be just fantastic for kayaking and fishing.

How long does it take to get to Karpas from Esentepe - and how do you get there?

Nicky it takes about two hours ish to the end of the Karpaz. It's around 100 miles, so further than you think, but I guess that when the new roads are but heading out from Tatlisu way this will be reduced by quite a bit.

Kaplica beach, about 20 mins further on from Esentepe. Excellent beach. Have to agree, so is Malibu which is near Yeni Erenkoy on the way to Karpas.

I have friends in Bogaz who have 2 canoes, they offered me to go out, but didn't have the time, and they went and came across a huge turtle, they were so thrilled, and I was so upset because I didn't get to see it!!!

pilgrim & ilovecyprus:

Where exactly are Malibu Beach and Golden Beach on the Karpas? Everytime someone makes a good suggestion I immediately go to my map of NC to make a note for future reference, but can't find these beaches by name only so I assume they are beaches belonging to a village. What are the nearest villages I will find on the map, or are they near Yeni Erenkoy?

Abby - I also was looking for Malibu beach - it is near Ayia Trias on the north Karpas.

Do you have Google Earth on your computer? (if not then download and install it).

Type in Ayia Trias (in the "Fly to" box). It will zoom in on this village.

Then just zoom out a little and look north. Click on some of the blue circles and Malibu beach will show.

If you play with the map you will be able to trace the road back to Kyrenia etc.

Can anyone tell me which beach is the beach to the left of Acapulco - it looks lovely on Google Earth but not sure which beach it is and how much it costs to go on there. Looks like they have a nice restaurant as well. UKTurk/Izzet do you know?

Hi BHW,

Bad news I am afraid, we too saw the beach on Google Earth - so drove to it in October. It is part of the army complex and is for army use only......

Yes - there is a road with a resort style sign on the wall at the entrance (from Kyrenia, just before you turn off to Esentepe on the left hand side toward the sea). When we got to the bottom, big barrier, army present etc !!! Still they were very polite and helped us back on our way.... Beach did look fantastic though !

Hi Perry

I think you are referring to the sign marked Baris.

I agree the Karpas is wonderful for beaches and the new road will when finished make a difference. My only regret is that they've done the same as they did with the first part of the new road and that's destroyed the old coastal road. It was a very long and winding road but it was great to turn a corner and come face to face with the sea then head inland again for a few miles. It used to be a 2 day visit to the Karpas as it took so long to get there.

I know its good for those who have properties up near Malibu to have the new road but as I said I just wish they would have left the old road in place.

On the road to Guzelyurt about 2 or three miles outside Karsiyaka,it`s called Horeshoe Bay, and two or three others in that area can`t remember the names, Just turn up and swim, sunbathe.

Anyone know if you can get down to the beach opposite Nature Bay Village (near Korineum Golf course). On Cyprus44 best properties it shows the village opposite what looks like a sandy beach - anyone know if there is access to this beach and what it is like?

Hi,

Could anyone tell us please the best beaches in the Lapta area suitable for small children? When we visited last year the sea was quite rough. We are coming out to our new apartment in Lapta on 22nd March.

Hi Billbob, from our own personal experience we take our grandchildren to the

Escape Beach, we live in Girne and I know there are some other beaches around but the facilities at the Escape are very good, but you do have to pay.

Enjoy your stay.

You will probably find the sea a little cold (but still warmer than the UK) in March.

In previous years Escape beach have not charged until the end of April

End of March / early April last year, Escape had not opened and the beach was covered in seaweed from the winter (they obviusly clean the beach ready for the season). Tip for you though Billbob - drive to the east of Kyrenia to Acapulco resort. They do not charge to get in until the end of May, and the beach there is fabulous. The loungers and beds are on the beach from mid March

Thanks all for your help and advice, sorry for the very late reply!. We did visit Accupulco Beach and yes it was lovely. Escape Beach was also nice, but not open and yes covered in seaweed!, children enjoyed though.

Our apartment is direcltly behind the Rose Garden Hotel in Lapta which was not ready for our stay in March!, still not sure if it is going to be ready for our next visit in August!

Would still like some suggestions about child friendly beaches in the area, as apart from Escape, the others were fairly dirty and not much sand!

Hi Billbob,

We are almost neighbours, we have a place just above the village of Lapta. Try Camelot beach, the road to it is virtually opposite the turning for Rose Gardens. It,s only small but safe for children and there are facilities if you need a drink or snack, better still take your own in a cooler bag. There is a small charge for sunloungers but not much.

Hi Paul

Not sure about mileage maybe about 110, but it took me almost 2.5 hours from Alsancak to the very tip of the Karpas.

Another fantastic beach that although a bit of a trek is well worth the journey is Akdeniz Beach on the West side, I am not sure if many members have been to this beach and I for one after nearly 18 years on the Island only found it 2 years ago! No charge and it is well over 3 miles long, needs a bit of a tidy up but the sand dunes make the beach almost 400m wide!! Take a picnik, cool box and lots of water as there is nothing but a small shop which is in the village of Akdeniz which is a few miles from the beach.

Drove past the Vogue (on the way to Esentepe) and there was a notice outside that refurbishment is now complete, and the beach / restaurant is now open, anybody tried it?.

Gazza,

Algadi beach is not far away from you to the East, about 10 mins from Caltalkoy. Its sandy both in & out of the water, has a beach bar and stretches for hundreds of yards. It would at least give you a starting point until you use local knowledge. Its just off the main road going East signposted for Esentepe and ic clearly marked.

Have a great time, we are just back and its hot, hot hot !!!

Hi we have just got back from a great week - the weather is absolutely perfect - hot and sunny by day and warm at night - but the humidity is still low. Great news - on Wednesday the local schools organised a beach clean. We went to Alagadi (Turtle beach) on Thursday and it was absolutely spotless - not a piece of rubbish in site. Lara beach (just before Alagadi) was also very clean and very nice. We also noted that Acapulco have put their prices up top to YTL 20 per adult and 5 per child so a family of 4 is now YTL50 !! - Just as well the other beaches have been cleaned up so well

wish2rent,

we are at Ozankoy so Diana beach is the nearest for us but last time we visited the road down was blocked off and I was informed that a hotel is being built so there will be no access until its finished (Bet there is a charge then) Any one know if you can presently access this beach?
