WARNING TO ALL - GOODS STOLEN FROM BAGGAGE - ERCAN TO STANSTED.

I flew today on flight PC501 8:10am from Ercan to Stansted. On arrival at Stansted the ground staff noticed some baggage coming down the belt had been tampered with and was open . I have since found , after checking, that someone had stolen a camera out of my suitcase. Pegasus have been informed in English and Turkish and we will see what they do about it, but I won't hold my breath on this one.

Just a warning to all DO NOT PUT ANYTHING OF VALUE IN YOUR CASES THERE ARE THIEVES OPERATING SOMEWHERE ON THIS ROUTE.

I seem to recall in other threads this happening.

It might be an idea starting a new thread asking for others that have had this occur to post there details and then pass them on to Watchdog the BBc tv programme and ask them to investigate. It might send a warning to Pegasus to get to the bottom of the problem.

Maybe 'Flypigs' need to increase their profit margins even further from another area of 'rip-offs' they happily endorse!

John Msg 1 - Most sorry to hear it - I hope that your travel insurance covers it and that you filled out a form before leaving the airport

Peter Msg 3 - I am not sure that it is the airline who you can blame as they do not employ the ground handling teams at any point, it is their contractor or the airport who do that. You hear of this with different airports and airlines at times it is a pity as it ruins tour journey - but you would do well not to have valuables in the hold to make the chance of losses lower.

We flew Stanstead to Ercan and someone opened our bag and had a look inside. They cut off the strong plastic tie pull thingy to get in it.

You shouldn't put things like cameras in your case they should always go with you in your hand luggage.

The theft could have occurred anywhere, we had a case opened in Munich checked by customs there and it was locked, the only way we knew it had been checked was a type written form in the case to say it had happened if we hadn't seen it when we got here we wouldn't have known because we had to unlock the case as normal and nothing seemed out of place just the note!

Put a lock on your case.

It is hard to aportion blame to one area without definite proof.

As the case was in transit from Ercan to Stansted it could have easily happened at either airports. If the case was not locked it could have come open when being moved (thrown) from one area to another and one of the baggage handlers could have locked the case again when it was noticed. You never know that in the heavy throwing about that happens the camera could have shot off somewhere and the case well on its way before the camera was noticed. The cases are moved so quickly from area to area.

Isabella, a lock will only keep out an honest person and I don't think the case would have closed itself after the camera "flew out"

For suitcases with a zip, locks are not enough to keep thieves out.

Look at this.

i personally never put anything of value in a case, no cameras, ipods, jewllery, paperwork, keys, money.....

we get enough hand luggage allowance to carry all of the valuables....

I agree with billyboy1 - always carry valuables in your hand luggage. I would never place anything like money, cameras, etc. in the hold luggage. Its just common sense.

When I travel my cheap suitcase is probably worth more than the clothing items within !

Suppose the point is there are thieves or flying about items on this flight journey, so thanks for the warning.

Losing anything whether stolen or flown is an inconvenience, it wouldn't be in the luggage if it wasn't wanted.

last year my friends and my mums elderly friend had both cases go missing for days. one came back intact, one was busted open, and stuff missing.nothing of worth was in there but the elderly lady was very upset. and yes..it was pegasus. we had such a bad experience with the whole flights thing, so we now go south side. we complained but lost the printout tickets so couldnt claim.
