As the date of our move out draws closer, I need to find a reliable, fast internet connection (Wireless as no phone lines in our part of Ozankoy!) plus TV. Am thinking of a 1.8m dish plus what ever else we need in terms of hardware.

I'm told that satellite cyprus might be a good call?

Hi Arockingace

you only need a 1.8m ( or bigger) if some UK based TV is your bag.. you won't get BBC.. but you can get ITV1 and many concerts / sports events ( incl F1 , Wimbledon, and the BBC results service on a Sat pm using the red button.

You can also get many HD channel if you subscribe to SKY

You can use a 1m dish to get Arabic TV - there's about six decent Eng lang channels that are completely FREE

You can subscribe to Arab pay TV packages

Only Digiturk and Nova Cyprus are strictly speaking 'licensed' pay TV packages.. and ANYONE 'guaranteeing' other pay TV isn't being honest... it carries a degree of risk.

IF you already HAVE SKY, continue to subscribe and if you want - you can try other services and stop SKY if they suit...

re msg 3 As there are umpteen sat TV choices in Cyprus, might I suggest you stick to 'advising' on things you DO know about ... Sat TV is CLEARLY not one of them........!

( cont)

Wireless internet ?: Best to check with folks in the area where you will be living .. most services route via Turkey and the service is MUCH slower than you would expect in the UK and much more unreliable.

I would personally advise against a great big huge dish in or on your home, there just is no need for such expensive nasty looking huge-mongus bits of very expensive metal, they are just a eye sore. But thats IMHO

with my itsy bitsy likkle dish i get full HD TV with all the sports you could ever want,i get so many music TV channels and many concerts, also many diffrent documentry and history and nat geo and animal planet and oh my goodness me ,just to many to mention here,id be writing all night if i tried to name just 50% of them, also the beauty with the system i have got you can see it working before you buy it and have the pleasure of knowing that 100s of other people use the same system and are so very happy with it,well im more than happy,no freezing,no stopping,i can even record 2 diffrent programs i think while im watching 1,im still trying to get my head round how it all works,so many great funtions, also 3DTV if you have a 3D set, Long Live small dishes.

Download Bit che it will then prompt you to download Utorrent, do so, you can then type any programme or movie you like into Bitche and it will download through Utorrent for you to watch, Simples.

Roomy.

Utorrent is good, but with most having such slow internet connextion it would take forever and a day to download movies to watch every day, also lots of people are limited to what they can download as they use wireless dongles, again that service is limited. If i watched a movie every day for a month and had to download it from utorrent,it would cost me a fortune and id be watching this months movies next month that i was downloading now.

Great if your in the UK where we dont get ripped off on internet connextion costs and speeds.

Well i think in life if your happy with a service or product you do tend to tell others of your experience and if your happy.

Ive tried many different TV packages and services in the last 3 years, and only in the last 4 or 5 months have i been happy since i took http://www.satellitecyprus.com package.

Anyway,i know in the UK you dont have the same problems as most have had here with TV packages, but since http://www.satellitecyprus.com came along, every 1 is very happy, ohh apart from 6ms and some of his cronies.

Was it a washer man

Nay, a washer woman

That cleansed the land

Of a wanking man

Just to be told

I'm a sextuple M lad!

Only have sky+ at home and when we move over in February we were thinking of bringing the box and keeping up the subscription as advised by others or is it hassle and just as easy to start afresh in TRNC.I'm not planning to be glued to the TV that's for sure

To be honest sparky71

if you got a few grand to waste on a huge mongus lump of metal and you like your garden to look important and like jordrell bank, then bring your sky box with you, also at the possibility of blighting your landscape with such a huge ugly looking lump of metal.

But if you wish a great service and package look here

http://www.satellitecyprus.com

half the cost of sky. no huge ugly dishes, no freezing or picture stopping.

Plus you can leave your few grand in the bank you have saved with not buying an expensive bird perch.

Im just being honest and speaking from my own experience, but of course some people like there garden to look important,i think you get my gist,"IVE GOT THE BIGGEST" in the street kinda attitude.

The goverment should licence of at least make people get planning permission for such huge eye hurting contraptions, after all i think you gotta get some kind of permission for a big garden shed,or maybe im wrong.

For me personally a half decent internet connection and VPN service is enough for all my tv / video needs. Live streaming, streaming and download. Its cheap, if you are paying for the net conection anyway, and no extra dish of any size. Not the right solution for all, but no one solution ever will be, but for me its good enough.

As long as it's an HD box bring it out...if you subscribe to SKY you'll get FAR more HD channels - but your Arabic won't improve ))))
