I have been with SunnyCyprus for about the same time and have never had anything but excellent service, above and beyond what I pay for. I have been with them wirelessly and with adsl and always get a good continuous connection.

Extend have just quoted me 599TL for a years connection which can be suspended whilst away. Is this price in the ball-park?

I beg to differ Msg 8, have been with them for seven years, they are so always contactable when there is a problem, which is more than can be said for many other providers, and problems with their connection are mimimal.

Msg 1, Ian

I think the problem has been between Telecom and SunnyCyprus as who was to blame, accusing each other for the disfunctional service and not resolving or addressing Ian's problem!

Sounds familiar?!

Natalie, I am curious how you can quantify your statement, if you have been with them for 7 years how would you know the comparison. If you are also using all the other services then I can completely understand how you would know, otherwise and I am afraid that I am assuming this based on your statement. You are happy with the service from sunny Cyprus and assume it is better customer service than others.

I could say the same thing about my provider but I don't because I don't actually know if it is true, if you are truly trying to help members and not a friend who works for, or is sunny Cyprus you would base your statement on the facts you know, not what you believe.

Richard, you know things are bad when I actually agree with AJ but do you never wonder why nobody replies to your comments, I think they may be either too high intellectually for me or I just don't get the NZ sarcasm but lately, I have been baffled with most of your posts.

Msg 11

Paul, an uncalled for comment and for one that did make the effort to meet me, unlike AJ 3 no shows, I cannot understand your 'pop' at me on this post/thread. I've made no referral directed to you or at you and if you do have a problem with my sense of humour, just ignore me and not respond! Easy? Probably not for you!

OK Richard, understood. Just thought that you might be interested to know that I was confused by your postings and referred it to something I had read that was posted by AJ.

If it aggrieves you that I have not made an effort to meet you then perhaps you could make an effort, it does work both ways you know

I think it would have been interesting to meet you but I am not so sure, perhaps it is fate that has decided for us.

We were with Sunny Cyprus about three years ago - we live in Girne - and we did have a lot of problems - in the end they suspended our service! Because they couldnt sort out the problems, we had paid all the costs, bills etc but it was a real problem - I think, at that time, it was a sporadic service going on where you lived - some people were OK in more outer areas but Girne was poor. Now with Turkcell dongel and it is very good - 3g modem. Excellent.

Msg 11. You are right. Have not used any other provider, why should I when I am getting a very good service from Sunny Cyprus and despite your cynical remark, my relationship with them is purely provider/customer. I do however, surprising as it may seem, have ears and eyes and am constantly reading on here and other sites of peoples' dissatisfaction with various other providers and listen to the same when with friends and acquaintances. Some people just always have to knock the things that are good about this place.

I am not cynical, I am trying to point out that contributing to the destruction of a company based on what you have seen or heard on here is not fair.

3 months down the line from here somebody could criticise them again based on what you have written, which is based on what someone else has written, which on based on what someone might have heard. I am sure you get my point.

Apologies if you interpreted my comment in any other way.

Sorry for the first time in two days am back on line. The reason it was repeated was because the line came up temporarily

To answer various points-

- obviously I cannot comment on other providers and I never suggested there were any better. All I said was that for me SunnyCyprus do not deliver.

- yes they all blame each other but when I spoke to SunnyCyprus all they did was refuse any refund for a service they are not providing.

- contactability all they say is that Terry is on holiday

Any workable alternatives have to be better than SunnyCyprus

OK, here's *another* thread about poor service from a WISP ( wireless ISP)

It's about time that they had some competition

I've been involved for two weeks in a project to provide internet via satellite - I was involved in the installations side - as I wanted to see how the product worked... this was in the UK.. for folks who can't get ADSL to work for them.. mainly Cotswold locations.

Users: 1/ Music biz.. with Cotswold home - need to view music vids for new talent

2/ London based biz man with Cotswold home - wanted to work from Cotswolds

3/ Company trading in recycling - remote location - couldn't run software package necessary to run their biz- needed to contact and exchange data on a centralised server..

4/ Couple with their own biz - working from home.

5/ A chap wanting to keep in SKYPE contact with his Russian fiancée - had no phone line - remote location an no 3G coverage - 'lifesaver'

Now, before he changes his mind about the reason that 'he' is putting forward that these people/businesses went for a satellite based internet system:

They went for it because they are in remote locations where 'normal' internet connections are not available, where perhaps, there was no other alternative.

Have alook at these pages to learn something about satellite based internet systems

http://www.satelliteinternet.co.uk/faq

http://www.satelliteinternet.co.uk/how-it-works - Notice the price of the kit = £299

http://www.satelliteinternet.co.uk/how-it-works

http://www.satelliteinternet.co.uk/packages?pkg=2 - notice the bandwidth limits and top up prices

http://www.satelliteinternet.co.uk/faq/4/fair-use-policy - here's the killer

IF you want to use this new generation sat internet ( only went live on May 31 - after extensive trials) for :

1/ gaming

2 downloading lots of vids / TV content

it is NOT for members

HOWEVER, if they want to use it for

1/ email

2/ web browsing

3/ SKYPE

4/ other forms of internet telephony it IS a GREAT solution..

on Tuesday we took a lady off an 'old generation' sat internet service ( Ku band) and put her on a new Ka band service.. the look on her face when she opened her first youtube music vid ( she searches for new talent) was a sight to behold...

Instead of knocking something you haven't SEEN.. you should make an enquiry about being a reseller.

In case I get 'accused' of having a motive... Yesterday - having been impressed I did sign up to resell this service and installed my first client - DIRECT..

I didn't jump in - I tested the water - I was impressed.

Next week I'm of to Mallorca to install a system there and THEN Cyprus...

I think this office would be classed as whats known as a heavy user,so i think id have to have your £99 a month package, which would cost me 772 TL each quarter,3088TL per year, ouchh.

Would you also be able to supply me a mortgage

Here's some of the small print:

In order for everyone on the Tooway™ platform to get a good reliable service, we operate a Fair Access Policy (FAP).

We monitor the usage of all the users on the platform to ensure a good quality user experience for all. What this means is that during peak times, extremely heavy users of the service may find their connection throttled slightly to ensure that everyone gets equitable access.

This table shows how your usage will be assessed and the data levels which if exceeded may lead to some throttling. Between the hours of 12 midnight and 6.00 CET these volumes are doubled before any throttling will occur.

My comments:

The important bit is "during peak times, extremely heavy users of the service may find their connection throttled slightly"

Now, what does this mean:

Peak times UK 5pm - 10pm (Cyprus 7pm - 12pm) or, just when we want to use our internet connection

Throttled = Slowed Down, The Brakes Put On

Extremely Heavy User = they don't tell us what this is, in other words it is left to their interpretation (their idea of a heavy user will be different to ours)

So at peak times (7pm - 11pm) when we want to use the internet, we are throttled (We don't receive the advertised speed)

AND when a user complains, will mmmmmm answer his phone 7 days a week and jump on a plane and sort out your problem or, like Proger1 who, when he had a problem with mmmmmm's product, got the cold shoulder.

Re. msg 21

Actually the system in question has nothing to do with a `WISP` - the service in question (msg 1) is ADSL. ADSL is unfortunately not in the hands of the ISPs themselves. The DSL signal itself and the infrastructure involved is all owned by the telecom office. No phone line or intermittent phone line unfortunately means no service..

re msg 30, Washerman

As ever - you suggest a negative point - but didn't check the FACTS..

for example on the basic package - ( £24.99/ month) - you can d/load 500 mb/ hour or 2 gigs in 2 hours or 4 gigs in a week or 4 gigs in a month..

There's even a calculator

http://www.toowaydirect.com/solutions/

Please try ..

So, you could browse for FIVE hours per day, send 100 emails a day, including 300 word docs in a month, upload 4 ( hi quality) LARGE photos a day ( 120 month), 2 music tracks a day , view 100 mins of youtube vids and download 2 movies of DVD quality and STILL be under quota

As I said .. if you use this for SKYPE, email , web browsing - and business file sending - it is FAR quicker and more reliable.. VIDEO content eats bandwidth

At my suggestion there'll soon be a holiday package - so folks with second homes can get 'turned on' and off - as necessary

For the foreseeable future - at least six months all quota limits have been extended by 20% and anyone signing up for 6 megs [ basic] is constantly getting 8-10 megs down! )
