Second arrest for illegal TV provision

POLICE have arrested a second man in connection with a bust that uncovered what is believed to be one of the island’s biggest illegal providers of subscription television earlier this week.

An arrest warrant was issued for the 37-year-old suspect last Tuesday, after police were led to his address in Limassol and found four servers. The servers are believed to have been used to send out the illegal signal.

Limassol District Court yesterday remanded him for six days, along with the first suspect - a 49-year-old shoe shop owner from Limassol - who was remanded for eight days.

The 49-year-old has been in custody since last Tuesday - after his lawyer asked for a postponement of the remand hearing to prepare his case - which will be taken into account with his remand, a police spokesman said yesterday. http://beta.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/second-arrest-illegal-tv-provision/20110618

Girderjack99 you thread title is misleading and irresponsible imo.



The people that are being arrested in the RoC are selling systems based on card sharing, which is basically theft of another companies service without giving any revenue to that company. It is TOTALY different from selling grey import servies. Even in the RoC , to date I am not aware of a single person arrested for supplying grey services or for that matter of a single user of such services having lost their service due to it being a grey import.



Even ignoring the fact that the TRNC is in a de facto jurisdiction that makes the prosecution of people selling card sharing based services extremley unlikey, let alone 'grey import' services, suggesting what is going on in the RoC could have any impact or relvance to washermans service or those that use it is just rubbish and quite malicious as well I would suggest.

in previous raids.. companies that were pirating horse racing sat tv had their services disconnected and the subscribers lost everything



It's not normal for the end users to be prosecuted - there 'penalty' is normally just lose the service they paid for - some even think it WAS legit !!



As you say - Washerman is not a pirate - in that the services he installs receive revenue - grey market piracy is when the tv service is sold outside the region for which it is licensed.. as long as no claims for officialdom are made - and no LOCAL sat tv company - that does have rights complains - the companies are 'left alone'



Being in 'TRNC' only means that the pirate might evade prosecution - but their ability to supply the means of decryption and channels are rendered so unreliable that the user base falls away - so that even the pirate can't made a profit

Ok, so lets agree that spreading lies and 'misinfo' constitutes a ban.... if THAT is the case then why are companies / members that do this not banned.. if they are 'TRNC' based does that make it 'ok' ?
