UKTurk,

How does this work exactly, as the same petition was submitted (closed Apr 07). Are they likely to open a new request, add the new names to the current application or just reject it on the grounds an existing appeal is in progress? I think the latter myself.....

For details just search the peitions page for "Cyprus and flights" click on the "closed" Tab.

Hi Ukturk,

I signed the petition last year and agin now, my only concern is a report from the UK government stating that they could see no problem with direct flights commencing, if the T.R.N.C government actually submit an application stating which airport they would register as the North Cyprus International Airport.

Its all good, the people supporting the petition, but if the government can't do their part it will be a waste of time and energy.

Best regards

hi charlie

so you plucked up the courage to post then!!!! l.o.l

n cyprus with the u.k want ercan to be registered as an international airport (the u.k realise there is a majority of n cypriot people living there especially in london and this helps relations)

and it does make a diffrence because with these petitions and cases put forward by the turkish cypriot and u.k government go before The Convention on International Civil Aviation which are based in chicago u.s

but the problem lies again with the greeks because they are complaining to the i.c.a firstly that n cyprus is not reconized (change the record) and that they dont want comercial planes going over greek airspace which they might have to do if flying direct from the u.k (which is rubbish they can still fly over trukey and not stop in turkey)

so all we can do as the public is sign these petition and hopefully sooner or later be heard

I read smewhere that the ICA is pulling the Turkish and ROC authorities together as apparently both sides Air traffic controllers do not speak to each other. The ICA fears a mid air collision.

This madness needs to be sorted out.

hi cressy

this 350 a month i guess it is a apartment

when you go and see it and if you like you tell them you want it for long term and you will pay maybe 4-6 months upfront but you want it for 275-300 no more than this trust me you will get for cheaper than 350 because firstly renting market is slow at the moment especially at thıs time of year

secondly you will be renting long term aswell not just seasonal

so dont forget you hold the power!!!!!

good luck and hope you have a good holiday and do as much research as you can when there

Hi All

I signed up Sunday as soon as I saw the thread 400 and something then.

I also asked everyone I know; that may want to visit when I move out to sign up also.

I see from what most of you have said you are doing the same.

That's why I am curious as to why there is only 454 signatures as of 1pm today.

Surely there are more people than that out there that would benefit from direct and ultimately cheaper flights. If not I can see why we have not managed to get them before now.

It would not be cost effective for the airlines would it?

How about forwarding this to all the builders, estate agents and solicitors we are using, as it would be in their interest to improve flights to TRNC

Good idea.

All the builders out there putting up houses everywhere would stand a much better chance of selling their properties if it was easier to get to Northern Cyprus.

It would help with people's confidence as to whether to buy or not to buy as well I believe.

It would show things are improving relationship wise with the rest of the world wouldn't it?

hi there sussie and annew

your guess is as good as mine why there is only 454 signatures

but to tell you the truth the response has been quite good because before i posted this it was only on 322 so in 6 days 132 have signed

i have sent emails to estate agents with this link so hopefully they will spread the word, no point really in sending to builders most of them are not too bothered the way they think is they have sold houses up to now without direct flights so what diffrence will it make

Hi all,

I know that they tried this a while ago and no10 said it was something to do with an greement I think called the californian agreement???

That by introducing direct flights it would be in breech of this agreement!

And would be as if we are internationally recognising the north and breaking the law in doing so!

So until the political situ changes I dont think it will happen!

But tides are changing so keep on trying!!

Take care all-D

davidoff

it is actaully called the Convention on International Civil Aviation also known as the Chicago Convention

this is a specialized agency of the United Nations charged with coordinating and regulating international air travel and the u.k has a leading voice in the united nations so thats why these petitions are directed to no 10 and in turn the u.k supports because firstly outside cyprus the u.k has the biggest north cypriot community which contribute to the economy and secondly the u.k want to show they are n cyprus closest allie because they have their own motives

plus it dont help when greece and g cyprus make their objections (moaning)to the united nations thru the e.u which have close ties

like you said thou davidoff something has to give rather than take

we can only try and hope

you are right but like the northern ireland and many other situations like these their is always a bitter side and a lets move on side and north cyprus has a lets move on attidude but their the ones who should feel bitter how they was treated and still are today (direct flights - reconizing turk language and many more embargos)

but sooner or later something will have to give lets hope it is sooner

We would like the government to petition for direct flights to Ercan

N. Cyprus from the U.K. including Glasgow, Manchester etc.

As property owners there it is a ridiculously long and expensive

journey for us, some of whom are pensioners.

Don't want to spoil anything but this has been done before. The last petition was well received by the PM's office, but the reply was " Until Ercan airport has INTERNATIONAL status and this has never been applied for, there can be no direct flights". Is it that CTA do not want direct flights into Ercan, they would be the biggest losers if direct flights were open to all airlines. It may not be the case but why has international status never been applied for, when small airports like say Norwich have attained that status.

hi there wicks

before i posted this petition on this forum i already knew about the previous petition (i signed up to this also) but if we keep on with these petitions to the prime minister it is a good things because the u.k hold a lot of weight towards the Convention on International Civil Aviation also known as the Chicago Convention which decide what airports are made into international airports

The only people who dont want direct flights are the greek cypriot government no one else, cta have already stated they are in favour of direct flights and said if this does happen then their price fares will drop (the reason why they are expensive is because they have to stop in turkey which costs airport fees etc) to tell you the truth cta wont be the biggest losers because cta is the national airline of the country and most if not all turks (cyprus and abroad) will still use them the same was said in the 70s when b.a was the only registerd national airline of the u.k and with all the low cost airlines coming in to play they still survived (all major companies ajust accordingly)

also one of the reasons why such airports like norwich become international airports is because the u.k is a reconized country where n cyprus is not reconized this is where the problem lies in ercan being reconized as international

hope this clears things up for you

so keep on petitioning and hope for the best

I have posted the petition details on turtlebay village owners forum last week, people signing up everyday.

I have been reading this forum most of the year, thought it was about time I became a memeber, seen as I have read and digested many of the informative discussions! Jo

ukturk. Thanks we will sign up (of course). Hope that this time with new PM it might make a difference. Anything for cheaper direct flights but also for the other advantages direct flights will bring(like tourists).

Hi

I have just signed the petion for direct flights - although I still thik the way forward is for NC government to get tougher - when Greeks disorganise exhibitions in UK, why aren't any Turkish Cypriots there as well making as big a noise or bigger - anyone want orgainse a group at the next exhibition? I'll go.

Hi Erkan,

There is someone on the other forum trying to say that there's nothing stopping CTA flying direct from the UK and that the TCs are not embargoed or isolated. They really do delude themselves at times.

Well there I did point out a minor practical consideration (which ties in with the Chicago Convention) 'air traffic control'.

Potentially, this is very good news for the TRNC.

'According to Kibris Newspaper, the High Court in UK gave permission to Cyprus Turkish Airways and the holiday orginisation CTA to file a case against the government's decision to refuse direct flights to Ercan because it was against Chicago Convention. The objection will be based on the fact that the convention has been misinterpreted or wrongly understood. The British government has already committed herself to direct flight to Ercan if there are no legal impediments. Cyprus Turkish Airways have announced that they will file their objections in the High Court very soon.'

Hi all

Just got back from the pub and found this post------hadn't noticed it before. Direct flights to Ercan would be fantastic, so i'm signing NOW! Just to p**s a lot of my fellow TRNC lovers off, We fly out on Tuesday(4/12/07) for 10 days just to sort a few things out in preparation for completion date 31/01/08 (3bed villa with pool in Karsyaka), I am sooooooo looking forward to it. Sorry for that little piece of self indulgence,-------but BIG BIG thanks to all you lovely people out there who use this forum regularly, who have been a massive source of inspiration to me and 'er indoors as we embark on what is an exciting but at times frightening next chapter in our lives. your advice and experience is invaluable. On the down side, you have turned me into a sad individual, who comes straight home and checks for new posts!!!!! How sad is that???????? But seriously folks, thanks for all your help------keep up the good work(especially ukturk who speaks both languages and is a fantastic help!)

Love you all

Legin

Ps need to hear from you nevik
