lara beach is closing within the next eight days, due to the development which is being built above it.we were there last week and the guy who runs it was telling everybody who was there.all the sunbeds were free as a good gesture.

That's odd. I own a villa opposite Lara Beach and asked the owner, at the beach, last month if the new hotel being built was going to impact him, or the beach. He told me it would be at least a year before anything happended.

The project isn't due for completion until March 2013, so I'd have thought we'd have 3 or 4 years before they finished it!! ;-)

Do you have any other info?

Thanks for that clayton.

Ref msg 8. Owning and living are not necessarily the same, so I'm not suprised.

I'm over in March so it'll be interesting to see how far they've progressed

I am only surprised that Lara has continued for so long as it is. I first visited in 1997 and have been expecting to find it built over nearly every year since then.

Oh well another 'club' beach like Escape or Camelot, 25TL entry fee, 10TL for a beer. Plenty of jetskis and parasailing boats.

I think I will spending even more time in the Karpaz in future.

it wont be to long before karpaz is full of hotels and developments etc etc. soon there will be no where free or unspoilt to go to in cyprus.

north cyprus will be just like any other european holiday resort with no real beautiful beaches left.

the government should be doing more to conserve spots of beauty and nature, and instead it sells it off for development so sad the way things are getting out here in cyprus.

Many happy memories of Lara beach, especially during my first visit to TRNC in 1999. It will be missed by so many I am sure.

Re Msg 15: Was a time not so long ago where folks worried about buying property pre-owned by GCs. Not any longer as the prospect of a settlement to the Cyprus problem is as remote as flying pigs.

Good time to buy in other words.

Lara is just another example of "vested interest" as in Escape beach where, during my last couple of visits there was the added benefit of loud thumping music well into the early hours.

TRNC is being further overdeveloped with more and more hotels and restaurants where the existing ones struggle.

Also the whole place is being "modernised" and sanitised to pander to a decreasing number of tourists and more and more roads spoiling what used to be lovely countryside.

Ayia Napa here we come !!
