m's can you tell us in laymans terms if the 4.2m dish will still be adequate now that sky is reducing its coverage on a new satellite? Here in Portugal there is talk of a 1.8m dish being required instead of 1.4m!

Ohh.

Does this mean there could be some problems ahead for Cyprus also?

Hi Nicola

I tried to answer your Q about Portugal in msg 80 of this thread ! :

http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/75119.asp

Again, SKY is not reducing any footprints / coverage... it was just BBC and SKY swapping where they broadcast from ..

If there were to be any 'problems' in Cyprus you'd know about them, before hand... !!

Hi 'TRNC' .

if you have a 4.2m it *should* be available on 10803 H 22000 5/6 - close to BBC1 London/BBC 2 Eng on 10773 H 22000 5/6

Badr at 26 degrees is 'interfering' / swamping the weaker one from Astra 2 D

Badr 5 channels are on 10810H & 10810V on 26E.

IF you can't get it, then you need to talk to you know who ... ;)

6m's According to Sat News website they say they are changing the satellite and reducing the footprint, but I am sure you know best.

People are being advised to upgrade their dishes from 1.4m to 1.8m here in Portugal to get full coverage, so will those in Cyprus need to get a bigger dish than the 4.2m, a SIMPLE yes or no will suffice. Thank you.

Nicola,

Please can you find me a link to this sat news info.. ?

I REPEAT.. there is no change to the footprint imminent or pending - so NO change in dish size for one's current dish necessary in CY ..

Perhaps 2014 - but the members here KNOW I'd warn 'em before..

'Sorry' - if that's too long-winded' for you ;)

Here is another one, before you say you have already answered this let me add, I know posters with small dishes ie 1.8m have lost the beeb etc, will those with 4.2m dishes suffer the same fate. A SIMPLE yes or no will suffice.

According to the maps a 1.2m dish looks adequate for the whole of Portugal.

gooligan I can tell you it isn't, everyone here who wants all the channels needs a 1.4m.

At the moment that is, we are being advised that in a few months we will need a 1.8m dish as the footprint over the UK is being reduced, see attached link.

Hi Nicola

Thanks for the link, but as I said there's no need to buy a bigger dish .. any ITV you MIGHT not be able to get are still receivable from Astra 2 D

The UK stuff ( well ITV for now) will be on a UK Beam

There are 2 pan European beams which covers W. and central Europe, no problem ...

http://www.astra2d.com/astra1n.html

And here's the current coverage for Astra 2D - source of BBC stuff

http://www.astra2d.com/maps.html

You'll note that Cyprus isn't even shown as we *shouldn't* get it !! ( But then 4.2m aren't mentioned )

Mustafa came round the other day to re-align my dish (4.2) Result - perfect. All Uk channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CH4 plus all Freesat.

Still brilliant at his job, but Mr. Grumpy as ever (Sorry Ice!).

He and his mad Irish counterpart are the most knowledgeable experts on Cy reception. Used them for 7 years and still the best. Forget all the others, what Iceman and Mark Smyth say is the bible.

Dear luem1 ( Kevin)

What did you do to make our Mustafa miserable ? !!

I hope you didn't tell him he was a Cypriot Turk ?! ;)

Just to be clear - I am not his 'counterpart' - I just know he's been THE man - and the most respected contributor on sat threads on professional forums... for a long longer than some so called 'experts' who've had the 'same phone number' for 23 years less than him.... ;)

Hi mmmmmmmmmm,

That info might as well have been in Chinese - it doesn't mean a thing to me. Can you give it to me in Janet and John, step by step to get BBC news back - please!!
