I've just returned home and checked my emails and skype, in case my mum has rang me. Looked at this site and read the topic below Can i please start a thread that allows people who like living here to express their like/love for this island. Please, misunderstood, and the like, just don't........ We've lived here for the past four years, and have loved every minute. Whilst supporting others that have incurred problem. Typical Sunday for me....rung a few friends, cleaned the loo's etc. Finished my Turkish homework, then went to our daughter's house. We've spent a few hours sorting their garden, because they didn't know how to trim their bushes etc. Then we had a lovely dinner together with the grandchhildren, washed and put them to bed, and spent quality hours chatting away, exchanging opinions, not always agreed, I must admit. But we did have conversations, no TV involved in any way. This is the way families should behave. If you have similar stories, please add to this.

Just wish I had a family here to do that with. Geography does not come in to it - just magic to be able to do it. Yes, there are lots of good things here. Just collected a son from the airport and we were talking of the ease of getting an MOT, the lack of a TV licence, the helpfulness of some of the people, etc, etc etc, the beauty of the mountains with the b lue sky topping, and much more. But of course I miss much that I cannot now have - that is not the fault of the island, but mine that I am living here where those things do not exist - Covent Garden, the Festival hall, thealbert hall, a wide choice of theatre, special friends - and in any case I couldn't afford the tickets. so how much better to be poor and taking a look at the Medf in bright sunlight, than to be poor and being trapped inside a home looking at the rain. yes, Flower Fairy - lots of good things.

marion, I realise that I',m very lucky to have my family here, but.....my friend isn't so lucky, BUT, she is on skype or msm, and talks to her family more than i actually do. If you really want to communicate, and please be realistic......How many times did you travel to see your children/grandchildren when you were in UK? My children were only four miles away then, we saw them once a month, maybe. They now live ten minutes away, my grandson skypes me when he feels he wants to speak, so can your's, even though they're miles away, xx happy days

Philbailey, can't you read, I asked that you, and the like, do not post on this thread. I just wanted this to be a ''happy '' thread. We all know of the awful things that are happening here,my gosh, if you have a bad meal, it's the ''governments fault'' but some of us are really happy. I just feel it's about time we had a ''happy '' peoples post. I/ we also have our problems, but it's (our), my problem, I will not air it on a public forum. There are people reading this that would like to live here, and they can happily, if they do their homework.

No no no, that is not what flower Fairy is saying. She wants to reassure people that living here can be good. Yes, mistakes get made, and that is why she says do your homework, and that homework, surely is not just about properyt, but to ascertain whether the life style on offer is one that will make you happy. whether you can live on your income for the next however many years; homework as to whether you will miss family and friends or whether arrangements are made to keep in touch that makes everyone content with the move - and much more. at least I think that is what she is saying, and I axgree with her, let's have a Happy Page/Thread - just like pubs have Happy Hours

Phil, this, MY thread is not about your problems, sorry luv. This thread, I hoped, would be about the people who like/love their life over here. Sometimes, people get a bit sick of hearing about the bad bits, every post being over run by your problems. There isn't a whole hell of a lot we can do about it, although we try. Now PLEASE, let me just run a thread about people that have a lovely life here, like me, (sorry), but I love my life on this island. If the pooh hits the fan with problems, they're my problems. I will not share them with any of you on this forum.

Lovely to read a positive thread about life in Northern Cyprus. Family life is the same all over the world and should be celebrated for what it is ! The love of and for other people is the reason why we exist. What a sad place the world would be, if we didn't care for other people and were just selfish !!

@ msg 1, flowerfairy: It is sad that your thread is necessary. I share your feelings - I'm happy here leading a busy life. Busy with things I like to do on this beautiful island. With friendly locals who make you feel welcome if your attitude is positive. I will be accused of having rose-tinted specs on but I couldn't care less. I like it here.

Thanks for your positive thread flowerfairy. I have been here just over a year now after spending a few most enjoyable hoidays in TRNC. It is wonderful to wake up in the mornig and not have to look outside to determine whether I need winter woolies on today - although a bit of a shock this morning with the dark clouds and showers! Most of the time I love being here, had one or two wobbly moments, but mostly when hubby was back in Scotland working and I was missing him. I certainly could not have afforded to retire when I did if I had styaed in the UK and would not be enjoying warmth and sunshine. We have 3 friends arriving this evening for a 10 day stay and we are all looking forward to exploring more of this beautiful place.

Oh dear ask me not to do something is like inviting me to do it. I love the TRNC, I just dont like some, not all of the builders., some not all of the Banks, some not all of the people. I love the sunrise, the sunset. flowerfairy and her lovely life, not jelous, just a little envious. So there you are Joan, not bad at all really. Welcome back xx

Philbailey, Why not just pour yourself a cool glass of Vinho Verde, and chill out? Flowerfairy has a point to make, and should be allowed to make it. Get Nichola to explain the politics.! wyn

Well I never, thank you all for contributing to my thread. It's so refreshing to read positive feedback at last. Even Pauline has posted a near positive comment, , thank you, x This morning we had to go to Lefcosia, our car needs repairing. We have a very good mechanic there. If you would like his details, just let me know and I'll post them. We decided to take the motorway route there, and the mountain road back. What a wonderful drive, the views are amazing, and not a traffic jam in sight. Another lovely day........

Yep, just had another lovely day, met a friend (to be) visiting here, had a lovely meal at Punjab. Bonus was, our family also called in for a meal. How lucky are we to have our 'kids' living here. Nevertheless, our friend(to be), could understand what our life is truly like in the lovely TRNC.

Yes Maggie, it was a lovely day, and his curry was the best he's ever had. Just sitting, eating a meal and gazing over the med. makes you want to pinch yourself to make sure you aren't in heaven already. Well, our friend(to be) suffers from 'arthur itous', quite badly, he's been here for less than a week, and is already feeling better. All I can say is 'good morning', and here's to another lovely day in Sunny Cyprus.
