Any Petrol station 'Market' has 'de-ionised' water for sale in 1 Litre bottles, for use in car batteries, steam irons, PAP machines etc. - also available in the South, in larger containers from most supermarkets, a damn sight cheaper...

If you require actual DISTILLED water, I would suggest a chemist's - otherwise known as ECZANE / ECZANESI

msg 3,

All together now: - "Oh no it doesn't !!"

At least, it would need to specify that it was 'Dilute Acid', and not 'distilled water' or 'de-ionised water'

In any event, you should not top up car batteries with anything other than 'PURE' distilled or de-ionised water - it's only the WATER that evaporates over time, not the acid. Using water to which acid had been added would increase the acid concentration in the battery, and affect the specific gravity.

Putting it clearly - I think that you're wrong! - you may have been mis-informed, or you may be talking about something other than distilled or de-ionised water.

Having said that, if you can prove me wrong, I would be most obliged (I'll even buy you a pint or two ) - I do like to acquire useful data.

msg 1,

One other point is that, for a lot of purposes, you can use the water that drips out of your air-con down pipe - it is water condensed from the moisture in the atmosphere, so apart from the odd bit of 'atmospheric pollution', it is relatively pure.

The same goes for water obtained from melting the ice that forms naturally in your freezer (as long as you filter out the breadcrumbs etc... ) - I'm joking - if there are any breadcrumbs or other obvious contaminants, discard it, clean out your freezer, and start again.

I should mention that Supermarkets do sometimes sell 'scented' liquid for steam irons - this is obviously NOT 'pure' distilled or de-ionised water - don't be tempted to use it for any other prpose...
