can anyone please offer some help as to best and most cost effective way to secure a car in TRNC.

New purchase, UK import, second hand.

Do you need to have residence to own a new car?

How long can you drive on UK license and can you own a car under UK license?

What are new car prices like in TRNC?

thanks in anticipation,

The Import Taxes to bring a car from Britain are so high it is unfeasable. You don't need residency to actually have a car here or even a Cyprus Driving License. However if you actually live here you do ( I'm not sure whether you are resident or not). Second hand cars are ridiculously over priced here unless you can search out a good bargain probably as a private sale although I think you will still struggle even then. I went for a new car as I thought it made better financial sense although new cars have increased over the last 4 years along with everything else.

All in all I would still say if you can afford it get a new oneand organise the Insurance to be included in the price along with a few extras. You do so little mileage here it should last you years

Best bet is to search the forum for people selling cars because their leaving NC, better quality and prices, just did this myself, got a good deal, contact me off line if you want to talk about this.

if you drive for more than 3 months you will need to get your trnc driving licence.

which is unusable in the south.(need to use the eu licence)

all is not what it seems with new cars here.

purchased a citroen, had probs, spoke to citroen in france, they couldn't identify the car from the vin plate.

buy second hand, preferably a uk imported car.

too many cut and shuts on the market here, at least if it is a uk car which has been exported you can hpi check it in the uk.

no 100% guarentee but better than nothing!

Hi, I got stoppped yesterday & got a 187 lira fine for driving on an English license. Although I have been here since last December, I thought it was a year you could drive on my English License. However, I left the country & went to Turkey at the end of November, so surely my license is valid again as I haven't been back in the country 3 months yet?

Any help please anyone before I go and hand over more money yet again to this goverment.
