Our driving licences are due for renewal on the 18th of this month. A friend has told us that we will not be able to renew for 5 years again and that only 1 and 2 years are now available.

Anyone know for a fact whether this information is correct?

In fact the rule is that you can renew for 2 or 3 years,(not even one). That was the rule a couple of weeks ago when I renewed. Mind you it could have changed since then!!

'foreigners' can only renew for a maximum of three years.

Rule came in late last year.

Just hopethey change it back when mine expires. I have another 5 years to run on mine, and hope that I don't expire before it does! But goodness knows WHY the rules have changed.

How many years can a TRNC citizen get a new driving licence for?

I pretty sure they don't make more money as the longer licence fee appears to be 'n' times the annual fee.... and in fact as they get more money up-front and get interest on it. So I think they'd get more giving the longer licence but there's no telling how their logic works....

If they insisted on all foreigners taking a ten year licence then half the customers would be dead before getting full benefit - mostly from the poor driving!

It's probably due to some confused soul (unusual ............... not!) thinking austerity means creating more beaurocracy.

Just a further example of the racism so often displayed by the TRNC. I hope the EU recognises this before they allocate more funds.
