Uran Electronics have a new product based on Dreambox which is very similar to DOPI's new system. You will need satellite dishes for Hotbird and/or Turksat and a 2mb internet connection - the service is uploaded via 10mb connections to both Extend and Multimax and, whilst you can receive using any internet provider, there will be less latency using either of these.

The system delivers the following packages from Hotbird:-

Cyfra+ (see http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/cyfra.html)

Sky Italia (see http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/skyitalia.html )

Nova (see http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/nova.html )

...and adult channels

and from Turksat:

Digiturk (see http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/digiturk.html )

Costs:-

SD Dreambox, 1st year subs & installation 500tl (£180)

HD Dreambox, 1st year subs & installation 900tl (£325)

Subsequent years subs 200tl (£75)

(If needed) Each satellite dish 100tl (£37)

I cannot comment on quality yet but I will report progress once I am up and running.

I quite understand yorgozlu - but I think your experience is with Dopi, mine is with Uran. I had the same problems as Dopi users but at least I knew what was happening, nobody lied or made any false promises to me, and I got better compensation than the Dopi users.

However, I am not trying to convince anybody - just inform. I don't want anybody coming back to me because I persuade them to invest and then there are problems. If I take the chance then that is my decision and I won't be on here moaning if it goes wrong.

This is cardsharing I think, I dont think you can get hd channels on digiturk or nova and no lig tv on digiturk either. I have the same system but I also have sky uk hd. If there server is stable it should be ok, but I doubt it very much.

I like to say that I know the owner of Uran for many years and he is a very hardworking and straight up person.

This system in its nature is a very difficult one, tv channels constantly being upgraded in their encryption algorithms while someone somewhere is cracking and sharing in a constant battle. Sometimes tv channels get one step ahead and that might mean long interruptions in service until a solution is find.

So in this regard, I like to say if there is one person on the island who would minimize these problems and work around to clock to improve and upgrade his systems, its Halil Uran.

Unfortunately he doesnt control every aspect of his system, if you dont have a reliable internet connection, you may suffer, if tv channels change their encryption systems, you may suffer and so on.

You need to understand what this system is and what it offers.

As for the people doing the business, you can be assured that Halil Uran and his father is very well respected on this island, they have been in TV repair and antenna/satellite installation business for decades and they are here to stay.

Kemal - I have been a customer of Halil for 6 years and I fully concur with what you say; I have said the same on here many times. He is a very clever man and invented this system himself - it is his baby and he will never give up on it. He made a mistake allowing Dopi to become his agents and it has done his business a lot of damage - as has 6ms. Ismail also is a lovely guy and I have faith in both of them.

However, I accept the risks involved in a card sharing system but with several different services included they are not all going to change their encryption systems at once so there should always be content available. Even if only 1 of the services eventually remains it still makes it a good deal at 200tl per annum.

Incidentally , Halil has very good things to say about yourself and clearly has a lot of respect for you.

Jovial John you are correct regarding cardsharing and providers not changing their encryption at the same time. I remember sky italia changing their encryption and all the doubters said it was the end of the cardsharing system however within a few months it was hacked again. Digiturk hd channels and nova hd channels have gone recently but these are not them main providers that the hackers are interested in as the money spinners are sky uk and sky italia. OSN went but as it was not a main provider the hackers haven't bothered with it. Sky uk is running perfect on my system and so is sky italia.

I forgot to add something.

The dreambox will work happily in the UK or anywhere in Europe if you have an appropriate internet connection and a satellite dish pointed at Hotbird - Turksat (and so Digiturk) is too far from the UK.

I don't know about the legality .

The issue with such systems really occurs on two fronts...

1) location of the server

2) whether you are receiving the system directly or via 3rd i.e. sharing a card sharing system.

I knw several people with this system, and can testify on its excellence.

None have issues of freezing what so ever.

Its not the sytem thats to blame, just the provider you use.

just to add, you dnt need 2meg internet to run the system either, the internet usage is minimal, even a half meg signal is more then a enough to run it and ensure its stability

Hi John

The Cyfra+ link defaults to a general page, so not sure what that package

entails

@Topten, yes and no; These systems require very little internet to work, capacity-wise, any connection you can find on the island, including 3g might work.

However, these systems rely mainly on low latency (from your house to the servers, measured in miliseconds). Lower the latency, better this system will work.

3g is inherently a higher latency (and somewhat less reliable) system and is not ideal for this kind of a setup, also, you need to figure a way to 'share' your 3g to the dreambox receiver (you can share through your laptop or use an access point that helps you do this).

Hi John

Thanks for the other url. Reading Kemal's note, one other question would be where are the Uran servers sited?

If it's the TRNC then I would imagine the latency stats would be good, hence Goonerboy mentioning no freezing.

As of today Halil Uran has implemented a new high speed server for his service and connected this to Multimax via a 625mbps optical fibre link - thats 62 times faster than the fastest Multimax internet link.. This means that the service is much improved (I had no problems anyway) whichever internet provider you use - but if you use Multimax for your internet there is almost no possibility of freezing.
