a newbie here, be gentle

I'm looking to retire in about 2-3 years time, TRNC is high on our list although we have never been there! We did live in the south 20 years ago for 3 years (UK Mil) and loved it, went back there 3 years ago and couldn't believe how much it had changed - for the worse. We will make our initial visit in March next year to have a look around, probably around the Kyrenia area.

So my first question of which there will no doubt be more to follow..........

What is the approximate time it takes from finding our piece of heaven, having an offer accepted (cash, no mortgage) through to completition date including all the necessary due diligence matters such as surveyors inspection, title checks etc? (resale property).

Thanks in advance - Tony

OK, so are we talking a matter of weeks or months? Cash purchase in UK would be termed as weeks - is it the same?

I would recommend that you rent in the TRNC for say 6-12 months before you take the plunge, doing this could save you a lot of heartache

lovingcyprus, if the visits go well and we decide NC is the place for us, then our plan will be to rent for a minimum of six months and then purchase, ideally a property with pre 74 title and something already built so we can see what we will be getting. I'm aware this type of property has a price premium compared with off plan but I like to see what you are getting for your money and dislike hassle with slow progress on new builds and trying to visualise what the end product, views etc will be like. I don't have that great an imagination.

We have a few other countries in mind which we will also be visiting further afield, but NC is probably the favourite at present due to having lived in SC for a few years and knowing the climate and a little about the lifestyle. Also, its proximity to the UK has advantages should we have to return quickly or our offspring decide to visit.

Early days though yet.

Regards Tony
