Cyprus Turkish Airlines are the national airline for North Cyprus. Established in 1974, Cyprus Turkish Airlines (also known as Kıbrıs Türk Hava Yolları, or KTHY) have a fleet of three Airbus A321-220s and three Boeing 737-800s, flying from UK airports and Frankfurt to various airports in Turkey, then on to North Cyprus. Cyprus Turkish Airlines first flew to London in 1981 and have been bringing tourists to the sunshine of North Cyprus ever since.

Two countries in one day!

Like all airlines offering flights to Northern Cyprus, Cyprus Turkish Airlines stop over in Turkey before flying on to Ercan North Cyprus, so you get to visit two countries in one day! In fact, it’s so easy that you don’t even need to leave the plane, as in less than sixty minutes you’ll be taking off again for Ercan airport North Cyprus. The flight takes around five hours including the stop over, so it won’t be long before you will be stepping out into the North Cyprus sunshine at Ercan airport.

Flying with Cyprus Turkish Airlines

Cyprus Turkish Airlines have really made great strides in their customer service recently, and one of the main successes has been the high standard of in-flight catering! Your flight to Ercan North Cyprus from the UK will include breakfast if a morning flight, and a hot meal and drinks at other times. Members of online airline forums have even praised the alcoholic drinks served on flights to Northern Cyprus, especially the red wine! You can request a special vegetarian or diabetic meal too. Around 3000 meals are prepared every day at CTA’s catering unit at Ercan airport, as they also provide catering services for Turkish Airlines.

Cyprus Turkish Airlines Reservations, Check-In and Baggage

You can check in for your Cyprus Turkish Airlines flight to Ercan up to two hours before departure, and the check-in closes 30 minutes before the flight leaves. On the return journey, you should ring to confirm your return flight 72 hours before your return home.  You are allowed 20kg of hold baggage and up to 5kg of hand luggage, with excess baggage charged at £6 per kilo up to a maximum of 30kg.

Hand baggage is subject to the new restrictions imposed in the UK after the security alert of August 2006. You can currently take the following items into the cabin with CTA, but do check with your UK departure airport web site for the latest details before flying to North Cyprus:

  • 1 coat or 1 shawl or 1 blanket
  • 1 small handbag for women or a small shoulder bag
  • 1 umbrella or walking stick
  • 1 small camera and/or a pair of binoculars
  • a reasonable number of books
  • baby food
