I've had the good fortune to email some of you(sorry martin!) and as this development is potentially 3 weeks away from starting(,although if a developer hasnt been announced yet ,surely it will take them a month or so to get things moving).

But it would be nice to get everyone on the forum on a mailing list so we can find out how long things will take etc and share info.I'm happy to compile it as we all want it to go well, and 40 of us badgering kensington might make the odd difference.

It would also be nice to exchange info on travel to bafra from larnaca and ercan with any taxi no's you might have,as most of us will probably have been driven by the developer from girne/kyrenia.

I'm over there from 7-11th april and will be driving over there ,dont worry i'll get pics and put them on a website for you to browse,i'll also pop in and see fiona/andrew if i can find them!!.

Cheers stu

As the build should start on April 1st!!!!!! you should be able to get some great "action "photos when you are out there.

Hi Stu,

I've just decided to purchase at Thalassa, keep me informed and up to date if you don't mind. I'm a novice at all this . I'm still concerned about the whole process but have to hope it all works out for me and everybody else. Having read through the forum it seems like you guys have been waiting a while for construction to take place ? Did you know last year that the uilding would not start until now ? Let me know how you get on overthere in April thanks.

Hi Stu ,

just paid my deposit and about to sign a contract for one of the apartments at Thalassa. Would be grateful for any information you could give me. This is a new experience for me . I would be happy to know that there are other people like me. I'll be happy to be on your list . I would like to be in touch with people I'm going to be neighbours with.

thanks

Just to let you all know that myself and my colleague have just exchanged contracts on two two-bed apartments at Thalassa. We went over last November to visit the site and hope to go again later this year.

Stu, I will email you both our email addresses so you can add us to your list.

Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Hi to you all,let me tell you Elvis may be alive at present but that could all change if we have many more doughnut cracks!!!!(that's if he wrote it,looking at the spelling me thinks it was Priscilla!)I don't know about being alive to see the completion of the apts i'll be glad to be here to see them started!!!!!!!!!!! I think the NEW start date says it all!!

Good idea stu and lets hope everything goes well.

Keep your email addresses rolling in I've had 6 so far!!

Stu

P.s In answer to a query,I've bitten the bullet and registered the contract via the solicitor as I don't want to waste any time on my holiday in april, read the advice from kensington, but on further research decided it was right for me to do.I know its not necessary for those of us that reserved last year, but with Northern cyprus I like to keep things watertight.

we have also registered our contract - it is a personal choice but we thought along the lines of any type of insurance - you have it in the hope that you will never need it but it is there if you do.

Hiya all,

I have signed my contract and sent my deposit and really glad that I am not the only one. I was out there with a friend a few weeks ago and love Northern Cyprus - can't wait until Christmas 2011 (thought 2010 may be a bit previous and will probably be a bit of a building site anyway) - can picture sitting on the roof with a lovely glass os champagne already!! One of my friends is also about to sign her contract for an apartment in the same block as mine so thought we would arrange our 2011 Christmas party early!!

Please can you keep me in the loop with any visits and progress on the site

Thanks,

Jan (jaycee)

Hi All - maybe offline or online if people happy we could let each other know where we have bought ( block and number) would be great to get to know neighbours before we get there..... and we do have the time ..........

We are Block 5 Apt 47 or as it is now known 9-201 and we are Andrew and Sue and we have champagne ready for when the build starts... and when the foundations are dug.... and when.... the first block is laid .... and when ...well you get the picture!

Maybe the delays are planned to heighten our excitement!!!!

Check your emails folks seems some of our apartments have been INCREASED in size by 12 square metres!!

Has anyone bought a ground floor corner apartment with large pool ,and had extra terrace space added by accident(i.e roof of underground car park)??

I queried it in my plans and was told it was an oversight and i now had a supersize terrace, anyone else had it,probably only applies to 2 or 3 apartments with pools.

I'm going to get the whole thing decked but it'll be pricey no doubt!

Hey Goose ....any old excuse just to drink Champagne !! Keep some for the rest of us .....when we get over there. We're in the next block to you. Looks like you'll have a better view so get plenty of chairs for the balcony !!!

AND stu !!.....lucky devil with the extra floor space !! good for having neighbours round I guess .

I am in the process of selling a property I bought through this Company and have been informed that the developer will not sign any resale documentation unless they are given a £500 admin fee. It did start off at £1500 but my Estate Agent argued the point and the figure was changed. Has anyone else come across this? The only reason I point this out is that my original contract states clearly I have resale rights but nowhere does it state that I will be charged extra for this.

Hi All

Well I have just signed my contract and sent it to my solicitor. Fingers crossed it will all be plane sailing! We will see.

My apartment is 208 in Block 14, probably miles away from anyone else. I was a late starter in finding out about the resort!

OllieD - how did you manage to get a 2 bedroom apartment? I was advised they were all sold.

Stu, hopefully you have received an email from me directly to your address. I would be most grateful for any updates you or anyone else has.

Thanks so much

Hi Andrew and Sue,

We have purchased a two bed apt, Block 5, Apartment 48 at Thalassa Beach. Thought we should send a short e-mail to introduce ourselves. We live and work in the Shetland Isles and run our own small business which takes up most of our time at present, but we are hoping that in years to come we'll be able to find time to enjoy our property. We have bought the property for our own use rather than to let. Our e-mail address is ian@kinniburgh.co.uk if you want to get in touch.

Best wishes

Can someone look at there contract with the plan drawing detailing the apartment(not the simple colour one in the brochures),and tell me if the terrace area has a dotted line all the way round.I'm confused as to where my boundary is,and how big my terrace actually is.

Incidentally anyone know who bought block 3 apartment 27?

I have purchased a first floor rather than ground floor apartment but the terrace is claerly marked with a full, rather than dotted line.

Albie thanks I've sent a message to kensington, but from what I can see my terrace is massive somewhere in the region of 80 sq m,I knew it was going to be larger than advertised but would be great if it was that big,for the opening bbq of course assuming we'll all be out there for a visit at the same time once they say we can get the keys!

can you try to confirm time scales for the completion of phase one and phase 2. Also what choice will we have over tiles, kitchens etc and what will be the parking possibilities if people have not bought one of the £5k parking spots,

Thanks, have a great trip - hope the sun shines

Just back from Thalassa,we spent a good deal of time, driving the new road from Kyrenia, and checking out development in and around Bafra, looking at the work in progress and back to the artemis to see how it was faring.

I'm in the process of uploading photos to everyone who sent me there email addresses and questions to ask kensington.

In a nutshell, its just brown earth, top layer cleared, saw no construction machinery, vehicles etc etc.Beach and water is a right filthy mess, they'll have to do a big job on that.I've got many questions still unanswered as to the actual dimensions of the apartments, and a real concern as to the communal areas being extremely close to private terrace areas, inc my own pool.Anyone with a ground floor near a grassy area should take a look at it.

I also took pics of the number of sold apartments in each block, out of 309 available about 45% have been sold,or so the boards on site indicate. There are still some areas between block 3 and beyond which they may or may not turn into more apartments, can't see iy myself though.

I'll try and elaborate more in the emails,I did expect more.Kensington staff friendly throughout.

If anyone has a ground floor corner pool apartment you might like to email me,as you will def have concerns with the communal areas.Fiona is on the case though,so hopefully I'll hear soon.

cheers stu

Hi everyone, I am new to the site. I have also signed papers to purchase an apartment in the thalassa resort. Initially my boyfriend and i had agreed to buy a 2 bed, 1st floor apartment but then we got a leaflet in the post about the new penthouse apartments with jacuzzi on roof etc and there was no way we could say no(!) so now we are trying to figure out where the rest of the money will come from! but ultimately it will be worth it, if only for the gorgeous views. we visited the site last august and there wasn't much there except the viewing tower. can't wait until it's completed!

Graham hi.

I scoped the Thalassa blog last nite, and according to this, and the people at the sales office, they started clearing the buildsite around the beginning of this month. If you've put down a deposit, you should soon get the blog invite.

Hope this helps.

hi Graham we have something in common. We have Big Chief ( Doughnut ) as a neighbour. I think we will have a built in wave machine when he's out on hols. You wont miss him . always got a WBA top on. Shame he,s a good chap really. You done really well to get an apt with a private pool at this time. I think there are very few left now . Are you going to register the apt. It has been extended to the end of May

Hi gandy,

I have had all types of feelings since signing the contract but I am now really confident that everything is going to work out really well - dreams can come true. I have always said that Savils would not want to be involved with anything that went pear shaped and now that they are actually building it appears to be onwards and upwards. Just completing the accomodation for 200+ workers has to give a clear indication that they are serious.

I can only assume people don't want to be added to a list as 22 names from all the Thalassa posts isn't many!!

I'll give up at this rate!

Come on folks!,the thread keeps falling further down,

Dont give up Stu! - The thalassa 22 appreciate what ur trying to do. Maybe a new thread titled Join Thalassa Owners Group - or something like would encourage some people to reply - I think that when they see 60 - 70 msgs next to a thread it could put them off actually reading through them.

Just a thought

Hi Nellie,

Depends on where you want to stay. I recommend staying in Kyrenia.

The harbour is great, restaurants near the waterside, loads of shopping, siteseeing etc.

If you've bought thru Savills in the UK, you are entitled to an Inspection Visit. You should contact the sales person who sold you the apartment, they can offer good rates at some of the 5-star hotels, in Kyrenia because the developer is well known to some of the hotelliers (they move in the same circles). I stayed at The Rocks. It's got a casino so hold on to your wallet.

That sales person should also be able to give you a number for a travel agency that can advise on and book your flights. And bonus !! Savills arrange for airport transfers as well. And they drive you to Thalassa to check the site.

Some of the guys here on this forum can probably recommend other hotels, but I'm sure they've all used the Inspection Visit thingy.

Guys, if you have any other advice, fire away. I'm also going back to NC in September to check on progress at Thalassa, and scope out a few other developments, and would appreciate if you check with the wives about shopping, so I can keep my other half happy.

Hi Nellie, we are visiting the site on the 14th July , Savills helped us with the inspection visit but as we live in cyprus so we chose to go cheap as we could , as such we have booked hotel sempati in kyriena, we paid 190 pounds for two b and b for a week. It is stunning for the price but i think you will need a car to explore the area and take in everything the area has to offer. We have reserved in block 2. Nice to speak to you xxxx

Hi, probably a long shot but we will be in the thalassa area for a week from July 14th if anyone else was over there and fancied meeting for coffee/keo and chatting about the purchase, anything we might need to ask/find out whilst over there. Will be pleased to hear from anyone interested xxx

Hi Sarablu

Are you going in an Inspection Visit? If so, if you have time can you go and look at Turtle Bay Village. I've just received a leaflet thru the post showing this deveopment is finished and ready to occupy. Thinking of investing there.

Only if you have time though.

Thanks.

Tysee,

Your email address is hidden can you send it to the one I posted on this thread.

Anyone reading this who has bought/buying I'm compiling an up to date list of email addresses,so please contact me or you may well be left in the dark, not everyone reads this forum(although it is excellent).

There have already been a few issues that people have contacted me about and I have had lengthy chats with Sam Perry.

I'm just collecting and feeding back info if it will benefit others, things are quiet at the moment but it won't always be like this !!

thanks stu

Elvis -

I think the build plan changed when they changed all the block numbers so they are building from the front ( nearest the sea ) first which does make more sense as previously the blocks in Phase 1 would have had a glorious view of the phase 2 build !. We are block 9 so not yet at foundation stage and are expecting to pay in 2 stages for foundation then skeleton but I know from others that your block has been asked to pay both at the same time. I would want to see clear evidence that it had got to the stage before i part with any money. We have paid everything so far through our solicitor

I did not not know of that change. But it does make sence. I still think that the payments should be divided. Its not really fair that we have to part with 40K in one go until all the foundations are in. What would we be left with if things went belly up. I think its time for a trip over. Any excuse hey.

Hi thanks for the link Ollie, there have been problems with the server so any posts or new members joining since 27/10/08 have been deleted by accident,I know this has affected about 4 new members so I apologise ,please re register if its affected you.

However from this thread alone I can see at least 6 people who haven't registered with the forum,of course you don't need to but one day you might want some info and as I'm gathering good data on where everyone is as it'll hopefully be a nice community, can I urge you all to register.

I can't make it work for you if you don't meet me half way, many thanks to all those who have set the forum rolling, one day it will have hopefully most thalassa owners registered.

Cheers Stu

hello everybody on the Thallaso owners posting. we will be in block 10 eventually. I have been browsing through the forum, there is some very helpful advice and tips for people. However, on the other side there is so much negativity going around about purchasing property in NC, maintenance charges, contracts, bafra area etc etc etc, the list goes on and on I am astounded. Of course we need to here every point of view but my goodness lets keep it in perspective, we are in the v v fortunate position of buying a holiday home on a lovely island. here in the uk at the moment many people are struggling just to keep a roof over their head at home. What is it about people that generate all this doom and gloom. If I had seen all these comments before my visit I seriously wonder if we would have went ahead.

Lets just thank our lucky stars and look forward to our little place in the sun!

Hi Beatrice

Glad you like your apt at Thallassa. A friend of mine has also bought there. I have bought a Turkish Title apt in Guzelyurt which is a beachfront apt. I must admit i was torn between there and Thallassa which I know is a beautiful area on the Karpass. We are just near the border crossing which takes you to Troodoos and went for this site eventually because it was more central on the island. If there is a peace settlement it will be fantastic. We like you wanted Turkish Title and they are few and far between and more expensive but still a good investment.

I know what you mean about all the doom and gloom on the site. The British have a reputation as doom and gloom merchants. But take it with a pinch of salt I do.I dont things are half a bad as people make out. Think positive and give peace a chance. North Cyprus is a beautiful place and we should enjoy our holiday homes

Hi Linus,

thanks for your kind words. Glad you are happy with your apartment. There is something in the British mentality I think so yes I will just ignore the negative comments and continue to look forward to our wee place in the sun. Like you it I thought it was worth seeking out the pre 74 title, Its disheartening when you hear so many people whinging - good to get some positive vibes.

thanks again

I am with Beatrice and Linus - we have also bought at Thalassa and can't wait for it to be finished. At the moment everything is on schedule and lets hope it is everyhting we wanted and expected - looks great. It is unfortunate that bad news srories always appear to outweigh good news. I have never been to Cyprus but will be going in June to have a look at the Thalassa area - Good News sories please - it is obvious that so many people really love TRNC,

Message 101 - just out of curiosity, may I ask why you have bought a place in a country you have never visited? I know us Brits have a reputation for whinging, but you may do well to take note of both sides of the story - there are a lot of people here with cautionary tales as well as those who are more than happy.

I wouldn't recommend others doing what we did and purchasing without visiting but it seemed a good idea at the time and I liked the look of the place - internet only - and the development. We have had many moments when we have questioned our own sanity but are keeping our fingers crossed that it all works out. We are not people with lots of money and so this is a gamble - but one that we hope will come off. Our intention is to use it for our own purposes rather than a way of tryiing to make a few pounds,

Come back in two years time and see if your still so happy.

when you are sat on our terraces looking out at the sea (can't wait) watching your bank balance sink down you will know how lucky you are and what a great decision you have made, or as you walk along you boulders ( sorry beach ), the sun sets over the crap left on site and a misty heat haze rises off the waste land ( sorry gardens ) and arie's dog does a big steaming turd next to the pool, you feel a gentle breeze blow in from the sea and it flutters the ripped tatty pool umbrella's and blows over the flimsy pool shower as the moon shimmers off your green slimy pools

That is if you have lights on, if not all you will see is dark then the local hospital.

Sorry about that last post, I had just read the reply we had from ariel and was in a bad frame of mind.

Does not make it any less true but should have said nothing.

thankyou for your apology - do you feel it necessary to be so nasty?

Maybe jealousy does strange things to people.!

I cant speak for everyone but believe me mate whatever happens I have no worries about my bank balance, nor do I intend to. So please dont worry on my behalf.

I still believe it will all come good, but if it goes pear shaped then we will just cut our losses and ourchase elsewhere.

You are entitled to your opinion - though I didnt ask for it - it is still no excuse to be so thoroughly unpleasant.

This was definitely uncalled for. I am not sure why irishwrath is interested in advising us about what we have purchased . We certainly did not ask for his advice when we bought this property. yOU MIGHT BE MISERABLE i AM CERTAINLY NOT

Yes it was very nasty of me you are quite right to call me on it, it was very rude of me.

I can only say once again sorry for that post if any of the mods could delete it that would be greatly appreciated.

You`ll be alright irish, it`s understandable you getting a bit hot under the collar.

Many people out of the 350 feel as though they`ve ordered a fillet and been served a burger.

Instead of the owners getting together for a celebration flying to Cyprus for a crisis meeting, not what was expected on the buying trip.

I think Thallassa Beach will be better as the developers will have learnt and the purchasers will be more aware, probably to the cost of those at TBV.

Dear All, the main reservation I had about Thalassa was the cost of suppying water, gas, electricity, road, telephone lines for pc's etc.

Have this costs been included in the sale price of your apartments. I have your concerns at heart, and I am not trying to be negative - just realistic. kind regards ,Steve

Well to be fair thats the whole point of moaning at people to register on :

I've said it a million times, there are at least 140 owners who look at this board or our board and have never registered, some of you have emailed me why, thats fine.

But everyone else unless you let us know who you are,we can't make sure Thalassa is as good as we expected, and if anything did require everyone acting together you only have yourselves to blame at a later date.

We're already having a dialogue with Kensington and making sure we know answers to questions before people start querying stuff,so its in everyones best interests to work together.

So please do register, its simple and takes 2 minutes and join in,rather than lurk, even post a hello, its better than nothing.

And hopefully we'll have a better experience at Thalassa than Irishwrath has had at TBV.

Cheers Stu

hi Steve

yes these costs have already been factored in to the cost of our apartments. we have to pay for our electricity/water meters estimated at around 300GBP.

You are correct people do have to be aware of extra costs creeping in.

Hi all!

Been a long time since I wrote on this, thought it was no longer going. I am in Unit 8 G03. I visited the site in May last year when they started digging up the dirt. I am an Aussie based in Oman, and look forward to meeting everyone and enjoying BBQs.

Well done everyone, you should be very proud of your purchase!

Hi all

I think it is really very important you register on your own forum stu has set up, it is the best way for all you owners to keep in touch and form relationships pre build.

You will also need to form a committee, and will need to vote on stu forum.
