Just my tenpenny worth, but this type of behaviour by the authorities could well be the final nail in the coffin for Brits buying here.....

I have only just heard, but know nothing of cancelled 'thread's. Don't know what has been said, but it seems rather extreme to slap a hairdresser in jail, especially one who has been here quite a while, and whose parents are verymuch part of the community. But it just shows how different is the system here to elsewhere. Just hope that things are put right on Monday. Shame, shame, shame!

if we had moved to an "EU" country, it would be no problem to start a business - BUT we moved here......



many of us came here and "retired", with income bolstered by 22% interest on our savings...



Fast forward, now with interest rates around 10% - that's a 50% reduction in income for many of us - in a "normal" country it would be easy to a) find legitimate employment or b) easily start a business to top up our income, but not here...



like i say, with behaviour like this, coupled with the land issues / Orams i cannot see fellow Britts flocking here to live/buy...



if the authorities had got any sense, they'd be looking after the Brits - what was the place like before we bout here en-mass ?

A good lawyer costs money - if "Jez" and familiy cannot afford the lawyer's fee: here's my 25 Sterling to start a supporting fund. I'm sure hundreds and hundreds of Brits on this board (almost 7000 members!) will follow to do the same.

Perhaps AJ knows something we don't know, he seems to know everything else about this matter. As for whinging and moaning Brits, are they not entitled to an opinion, is it illegal to disagree with harsh treatment of a fellow man or do we have to accept it without question and turn away.

Most certainly in the UK if someone was treated so cruelly there would be massive press coverage and general outrage, especially if it was an immigrant of a different religion.

I don't think anyone is arguing that action should be taken to clamp down on anyone considered to be working illegally......what people are up in arms about is the imprisonment of an individual for what is such a petty crime !

At the end of the day, although very minor in the scheme of things, it is still Fraud by false representation.



In the UK, if you were suspected of this you would be arrested and then either charged then bailed, or bailed pending further enquiries.



Unless you had previous convictions, had previously failed to answer bail/turn up in court, then you would be remanded in police custody to appear in front of magistrates who would then give you bail or remand you to prison.



Gary Robb was given bail, look what happened after that.



In the UK, if you were arrested and charged on a friday afternoon, you would spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday locked in a cell, with a matress and a toilet. Fed cold microwaved meals, not allowed anything to read, no TV, no visitors. Warm water to drink.



Cyprus isn't too different, except they treat criminals as such.

I have had my hair done by Gez for a while now, and this is one of the best cuts i have had from this Island. Gez is very polite to his customers and he is very professional, the salon is clean and tidy and there is no slagging off.

It is such a shame that this has happened to a kind hearted person and i can not understand why another human being would want to put somebody through this. It seems to be that NC treats human beings exactly like they do their animals no respect, no care and just think about them selves and not the outcome.



Gez and your family i would like to wish you all the best and my heart is with you and if there is anything that we can do please just ask. You have a lot of friends here and alot of support.

If someone is setting up a fund and is going manage it. Then please do it. Enough people have pledge money already. Perhaps someone who knows Gez and his family very well should let them know that people are willing to help and see what they suggest.

Im not being lazy! I just thought it would be easier..and its all heart felt..



Gerald has been released this afternoon pending an investigation, i have no faith in the legal system here.. so I have decided that when this Is all over we will be leaving the Island.. The majority of the people here never failed to amaze me, some have surprised me by being so kind and helpful..strangers to me have given me 100% support and are not judging Gez regardless... and others are vindictive and pure poison, i do believe what goes around comes around, it’s just a shame I won’t be here to witness it..



For all of those who have offered your help and support I will always be grateful, and you will never be forgotten, I am sorry I didn’t get to know most of you better.



I am still in need of boxes and packing materials if anybody can help with such things.

Wease, I am so very sorry for all your heart ache and of course the children. I have said in another post all the very best to you, hubby and kids. Please dont raise to the negative people, just think of the friends you have out there, that would have helped and are helping, give it a day or two before you all rush into something that perhaps might turn to your advantage. I dont know how, but things have a way of sorting somehow.

I am enough of a Cypriot citizen with enough relations working in enough ministries here to know how laughably credible that claim is.



It is about as credible as your claim that you are merely asking questions with no agenda when in your very first post on the subject you in fact asked no questions but made as a statement of fact an unproven allegation and attack on Gerald.

Yes I am new, after years of viewing only I am finally upset enough to join! Jez I am so very sorry, many of us know how long and hard you have tried to get things sorted but have been thwarted by red tape and evil jealousy.
