More than 100 passengers who boarded a night-train destined for Milan had a surprise in the morning, when they woke up in the Swiss city of Zurich.

The overnight Salvador Dalí train, which departed from Barcelona in Spain on Sunday, was scheduled to arrive in the Italian city early the following day – but it ended up almost 150 miles away in the Swiss financial centre due to a points switch error.

The train, run jointly by the Spanish train operator Renfe and the French SNCF, completed the first part of its journey without incident, arriving in Lyon as scheduled. As usual, it was part of a convoy including another train, the Pau Casals, which was destined for Zurich.

However, rail workers then confused the destinations, sending the Zurich-bound service towards Milan, and the Milan-bound train towards Zurich.

At Geneva, Swiss rail workers realised the error and redirected the Milan train to Zurich, where passengers transferred to a replacement coach service to reach their original destination.

Passengers destined for Zurich were re-routed back to Lyon, from where they continued to the Swiss city, eventually arriving a reported four hours behind schedule.

According to a report in the Spanish newspaper El Pais, all 135 passengers on the Milan-bound service have been refunded the full cost of their tickets.

A spokesperson for the SNCF confirmed that an error had taken place in Lyon, without specifying the reasons for the mistake.

Oh boy. Shocking. And what has this got to do with Northern Cyprus?

Hans. Absolutely nothing. But this has - http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/43143.asp

And has only had 10 views.

Which just goes to show that most people on here are not interested in every topic being about the trnc.

That may be so but if we want to read the news we can go to:

http://www.thebigproject.co.uk/news/

or any of thousands of similar sites.

Have you nothing else to do but trawl the news sites for stuff to copy and paste on here?

Some people prefer to read it on here. It's for them and you to choose to read it or not read it.

The news URL JohnW gave is indeed only one of the many available URL's - if people here would like to read world or local (UK) news, fine: do it. But what's the use of copy/pasting all this silly 'news items, jokes and what have you' day after day? It only brings down TRNC items. And this IS a TRNC board, isn't it?

Hans. Today I posted 10 threads about Cyprus. 9 of them have failed to get a 100 views. Look at how many views this thread has.

I agree the forum is about the trnc - but it doesn't mean that every thread has to be about the trnc.

Also there are other forums that post the news and not just a link. Admittedly they are not on the home page, but this forum does not have a seperate section for news.

John W and Dutch Crusader certainly have a point :-

As you state No 1 Doyen, this forum "does not have a separate section for news", nor for sports nor for jokes. So, as it stands, these non-KKTC-related threads are pushing threads relevent to the name of this forum further down the page.

Like many, I read ALL the the threads mentioned above, but, as JW and DC state, we could find such news stories, jokes etc elsewhere on the web.

On another thread Ilovecyprus compared this forum with the discussions to be found in an expat-but-TRNC pub - msg 13 of http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/42658.asp . It would seem that most people like the atmosphere in our Cyprus 44 pub and indeed, as you state No 1 Doyen, the most widely-read are often the non-cyprus-related threads.

However, maybe allowing such threads (on a forum with only one section) are detracting from the forum's original purpose ... and perhaps all you mods need to get together to discuss the ethos of this forum.
