A friend of mine had her handbag and rucksack stolen from her car yesterday (Friday). The car was parked in the car park at Alagadi Beach. They smashed the window and grabbed the bags.

The police don't hold out much hope for her getting her stuff back.

If anyone in that area comes across a Black 'Prada' handbag and/or a large white rucksack please call 0533 846 0231.

Luckily there was not a lot of money in the bag, but all her ID cards, driving licence etc and also a gold ring that was of great sentimental value.

Please keep your eyes open for these items.

Thanks

Jane

How awful for your friend, whatever happened to the days when you didn't even have to lock your car in TRNC.

Hope that at least she gets her documents back, they will have chucked those asap.

Thanks for the warning.

sign of the times i'm afraid.

when we moved out here 5 years ago, a theft was front page news, now its becoming common place.

I'm so sorry for your friend, it is awful what has happened especially at Alagadi Beach , as i have always felt so safe there. I do hope someone manages to find some of her personal belongings, thankyou for alerting us to this, we will all have to keep an eye out now, sad though isn't it?

Very sorry it happened, but at the same time nothing should be left seen inside a vehicle, things get stolen from all places if they are visible.

Unfortunately 7-8 years ago it was hardly to imagine, but now I close my car everywhere if I have bag, camera or laptop there. TRNC comes to bad.

As others have said, 7 years ago we had no need to lock our house or anything, nor did we close car windows or lock the doors. When I did so, locals laughed at me and said "we can tell you come from UK!" Now, the TRNC has caught up with crime (or crime has come to the TRNC which is more to the point).

Martin, I don't know what relevance her nationality has to do with it? Her car was locked and no her bag was not on full display, but the theiving buggers smashed the car window anyway.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments.

She was planning to travel to Turkey this week but will now spend all week applying for replacement documents!

you have to be responsible for your own actions now a days.

always lock valuables out of sight in the boot and remove temptation.
