This is my theory, might be totally off track, and this will probably be deleted, if it is i'll post on that 'new board'

Mac posted many many posts all intended to get many reponses.

Removing the Mac was a drawn out afair, during which time I am guessing around 300 posts were probably generated?

This also resulted in many posts to ask to moderate.

A few day later, Big Steve turns up with questionalbe posts - skiing to the beach, transfering funds (GBP and exchange rate) and commenting within a few mins that not being helped.

Then, Turbo, a long term member posts a welcome to Big Steve, and for some reason Mac is able to post under his old banned name, which should have access denied - this is the suspicious bit.

So, as this board is commercial, probably earns revenue 'per post' or 'per post opened', are we all being taken for fools here in being used to generate income for the owners.

As I say, theory and maybe wrong, but I for one an suspicious enough to consider walking.

Brian, to add to your theory, why is Mac's e-mail address given as info@cyprus44.com? Is'nt that the e-mail address for this forum?

I've just received an email supposed to be from a forum member who was selling a landrover (palacerclass) but the email has come from izzet@hush.com and has an attachment (which I haven't opened) called 'shutdown.exe' Now I may be getting paranoid but there's no way I'd open this attachment.

M&B,

Any descent hacker can easily send you an email that has the virus programme embedded into the text of the mail itself, so if you use outlook for example it can then already be on the machine by the auto download function.

This is why I (like you) use a [disposable] yahoo mail for my BB stuff, being in the public domain so I can filter out things first. Anyone simple enough to call a file 'shutdown.exe' is of little or no threat, and it's probably one of these readily available fun email, you can get another one that once you open the attachment, it keeps opening and closing the CD draw until you re-boot, quite amusing if someone has a cup of tea ther! lol!

I will repost below a message I wrote on 21st November and which was subsequently removed by the administration of this board.

I am glad that some of you are catching up!

BTW email addresses are easy to change after you have joined. You can change them to anything (or anybody) you like.

Just another indication of the poor security on this board.

Copy of post from 21st November.

Judging by the number of people showing online (plus Guests), at any one time, I would say that although members may be saying that they are leaving, and they may not be posting, but in reality they are still logging on in droves to see what is happening to 'their' forum.

Whilst this continues, the advertisers, sponsors and financial beneficiaries of this forum really couldn't care less what is posted and how many members feel aggrieved.

Members may believe it is 'their' forum and that it owes longstanding contributors some loyalty, but the fact is that it exists on this website for one reason only - to encourage 'hits' to Izzet Zorlu's commercial travel and tourism website.

It is a measure of his ‘philanthropy’ and ‘respect’ for you all, that he allows the forum to degenerate to the level it has reached whilst all the time benefiting financially from the increased traffic on the forum.

My theory is that he made a mistake and didn't post as Big Steve but as his previous identity. Easily done if you are posting under different names on different boards.

Ed - Didn't see the post at the time, but had suspicions like yourself for some time, and agree with what you thought, but was expecting more in the way of an explaination, which hasn't come.

Just updated my email contact also.

As I said, it is easy to change one's email address to show something like edmund@cyprus44.com and then all abusive mail sent to me will end up on someone elses PC.

Although the offensive posts were removed, the member who shall not be named was never banned, barred, disconnected or whatever, and so it was just a matter of time before they posted again.

LOL ;-)

I have no real feelings one way or another if this board slowly self-destructs; what I do object to is the way that well-meaning members are being deceived and manipulated.

I know just what you mean Edmund - why have people got such short memories? Couple of days ago this person was making terrible threats to another board member (Grouch) now it seems he 'just got off on the wrong foot' ??? and we are supposed to forgive & forget - well not me that's for sure!

Can anyone please explain why if Macoazy was banned he was able to post on two threads this morning?

Hi Guys,

Very interesting theories from some of our more serious members.

What is clearly required is a statement from Izzet, if the board is under cyber attack he should be asking members to stand by him, whilst he tries to sort things out.

Whatever is going on is being done for a reason be it vindictive of financial gain. This is a

successful board and ripe for attack. The financial gain may not be the obvious, that by leaving the board largely unmoderated traffic would increase significantly in the short term. We know that over the last few weeks this seems to have been the case. Keeping on top of effective moderation must be a nightmare. But perhaps were should be looking further into the future. Who stands to gain if this forum goes under?

Interesting times and all theories welcome! Perhaps this thread should have been posted under Grouchos recent thread on "Favourite conspiracy theories".!!

The reason a member's email address is showing as "info@cyprus44.com" is because I did it once I change their password, so they cannot use the "forgot pass" feature to retrieve it.

It was an easier to block members from posting for certain number of days, instead of writing proper code to implement "ban for X days" feature.

It shows a lack of respect for the membership.

Members are able to post threats, sexist comments and cruel jokes aimed at other members without impunity.

On the other hand, members posting criticism of the board administration or insulting ‘Turkishness’ will result in a ban.

I do not understand peoples fixation with the way Izzet runs this board and I do do not understand the fixation with the problems that have happened since Izzet went on holiday. If Izzet makes money out of us posting on this board then good luck to him. The only reason we have had problems on this board is because people felt the need to feed the fire. If there had been no replies to the offending post's then it would have all died down quickly. I have always thought and still think that expats make life too complicated for themselves. Maybe it is something to do with watching too many soaps on television over the years and then finding you can't get your fix out here in the TRNC.

Totally agree AJ. Have been reading in disbelief the responses to 'Mac's' posts - he is obviously on a wind up and he got plenty of bites to feed on. The only way to go is to ignore posts which serve no purpose, whoever they are from. All the calls for moderators to intervene - moderate yourselves and dont get involved in someone else's little game.

i find the theory that i make money from the number of posting very funny.

how about another theory that the last vacation i took was from the money i earned from your postings.. :D

just to make things clear, there is no way i directly make money from your postings. as more people post, the website gets popular and the more popular it gets, more exposure it gets and therefore more people want to advertise. but the advertising is on the right side of content pages, and not on forum pages. the ads on the forum pages are my websites. when judging, please take into consideration that cyprus44 tooks more than 10,000 pounds to build up plus lots and lots of my personal hours. i did cyprus44 because i want to make the most up-to-date compehensive useful website about north cyprus, not because i want to make money. over the last 3 years, if you sum the total spent and total earned from advertising, i only made a few thousand profit and i think i deserve that.

Izzet

The strange thing is that there are quite a few people that post on this BB that also want to make money, restaurants, airport transfers, villa management companies, people wanting to let their properties, etc etc. So just ignore the bleaters and for anyone that does not really understand the logistics of the world wide web then I suggest you all do a bit of research.

Izzet. You are entitled to make whatever you can out of this. It's your business. I for one never thought you were running the forum for 'charity'.

I think the problem here was lack of communication. You will no doubt be aware of the situation here a few days ago which resulted in a lot of people being upset. The member's were looking to you for a statement which never appeared. No one is blaming you for what happened and of course you are entitled to some time off, thats all. It must be fifficult for you to run the forum - hopefully you'll get some good help soon.

You have a great forum and there are a lot of great guys who post here (women included in the 'guys'). Take care.

I think the main problem is some people post intentionally inflamatory statements and others just bite every time.

Yes Mac was offensive and deserved to have his posts moderated but I think the point has been made before that if people respond they only fuel the fire and if you dont like something, let the moderators know and dont get involved.

Izzet I think you do a great job and like No1 says it must be hard to moderate everything.

"Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words "I have a cunning plan" marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?"

Best series anyone? I was watching the other day and I think Blackadder the 3rd often gets overlooked but its almost my favourite (just loses out to 2nd but then I love a man in tights!)

Lem, msg 53.

We miss very little from the UK but not seeing Young Edmund at Christmas will be sad!

C & I think that the end of the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth (think that is title, going over the top in WW1) was probably the best TV moment of all time. I got to admit many tears were shed the night of the first showing.

The relevance to TRNC, who cares!!!!!!

Mmm scallops sound really good jsut on their own, why would one spoil the taste of wonderful scallops with that bloody offal, forget the black pud, (yeuck) can I get Guidos recipe for tiramisu please, I make the "second" best , the best being a side street bakery in Venice.

I know its a matter of taste and please no need to post half a dozen postings about how black pudding is a delicacy,, I am fully aware of the gastronomic upsurge of BP so no need to tell me again.

email is preferred for the recipe turboturk@aol.com. taht way we can keep it to ourselves.

thanks in advance.

My Welcome to Bigsteve was deleted, yet this thread survived..

"A BIG WELCOME" to BigSteve

U think he may be gone, but it ws a fun topic and thread to read.

I would like a reason why it was deleted.

I am not a mod, never wish to be or nver will be, I would not be able to baby sit without having to use the cane several times a day,

So can I please get an explanation why it has been deleted?

Was it boring, rude, name calling, threatening or breaking any rules????

Izzet are you now going to delete this whole thread too because I question you?

What the hell is going on for gods sake, one person disrupts a few posts and this thing goes on and on starting MANY offshoot threads all about the same person.

I bet he is had the last laugh, he is probably back here and having a bigger laugh seeing the damage he did and how people are so gullible and easily agitated, yet i am one not so easily agitated . Deleting my topic agitated me

B.S

I can see that we are headed in a downward

I suggested you may be a "Mod" because in your welcome to BigSteve you congratulated him for the number of postings he had made, and then mentioned "including the ones waiting to be approved" I did not know ordinary members had access to that info.

Apologies.

I specifically emailed Izzet and asked him not to remove M's posting against me as they may well become evidence in the issue of arrest warrants both here and in the UK... Issuing threats of violence being against the law in both.

However I see that it has been seen fit to remove them...

If it had to be removed fine, but at least let the originator of the thread know and give a reason why he has access to my email..

I have no point of reference why or what it contained, i am racking my brains trying to think if it was something I said without realizing it, and of course not having something to look at I can only keep guessing.

What I meant about reading the posts before they get moderated, we as members can read our posts immediately, as for new members they have to wait until it has been checked for content then posted.

Thats what I meant, not because I have special privileges.

This is one board I would not like to be a moderator of.

I agree with you Turbo, one or two of the threads removed were a bit benign and didnt seem to break any of the forum rules.

CIS home totally agree, I cry everytime I see that episode!

I knew from the start that Turbo was being sarcastic with Mack by welcoming him, I think some of the benign threads will have been taken off because they won't have made much sense once Mack's replies had been taken away, it would have looked like people were talking/fighting with themselves.
