Vice Presidents of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament Mechtild Rothe and Jan Marinus Wiersma have said they will continue to encourage the European Council for the implementation of the Direct Trade Regulation within the year.
In separate messages to the 21st Ordinary Congress of the Republican Turkish Party, the European Parliament Socialist Group's Vice Presidents Mechtild Rothe and Jan Marinus Wiersma said they would insistently continue to work towards realizing the Turkish Cypriot People's wish to be granted representation in the European Parliament.
According to the information from the Republican Turkish Party Press Office, Mrs Rothe said, in her message, that the Group would continue to work together with the Republican Turkish Party for the removal of the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Underlining the need to maintain the support for the reunification of the island, Mrs. Rothe expressed the view that it is possible to find a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem and said that the status quo is unacceptable.
Also underlining the need for the Turkish Cypriot People to be granted an observer status in the European Parliament, she expressed the hope that it will soon be possible for the Turkish Cypriot people to make its voice heard in the European Parliament.
For his part, Mr Wiersma stated that the Group will continue to support the Turkish Cypriot People's demands to become an inseparable part of the European Union adding that this would only be possible with the reunification of the island.
He also expressed the Socialist Group's desire to improve its relationship further with the Republican Turkish Party deputy Ozdil Nami who is representing the CTP with an observer status within the Group.
