Turkish Government will continue towards EU membership while protecting the rights of TCs

Source: BRT
11 December 2006

The Turkish Government has stressed that it will continue its efforts towards EU membership while protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.

The Turkish government’s position was made clear by the Government Spokesman Cemil Cicek after today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Mr Cicek told reporters that the Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul informed the Council of Ministers on the latest developments in country’s EU membership process.

Noting that the EU was well aware of Turkey’s expectations from the Union, Mr Cicek said Ankara wants the Union to be objective towards it.
