A delegation from the European Union is holding contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on the Direct Trade Regulation.

As part of its contacts in the TRNC, the delegation was received by President Mehmet Ali Talat and Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer.

President Talat said that he discussed several issues – including the Cyprus problem – with the visiting EU delegation.

The President also said that he hasn't yet received an invitation from the United Nations for talks with the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopulos.

President Mehmet Ali Talat received an EU delegation, made up of the EU commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn's Special Adviser to Cyprus Jaakko Blomberg, the head of the Turkish Cypriot Community Task Force Andrew Rasbash and the General Director for Enlargement Timo Suma.

The Cyprus issue was among the topics taken up during the meeting between the President and the EU delegation which is on the island for talks particularly on the Direct Trade Regulation.

Responding to reporters' questions about the meeting, President Talat said that several issues including the implementation of the Financial Aid Regulation and the Cyprus issue were among the topics discussed, not just the Direct Trade Regulation.

Asked to comment on reports that a meeting is scheduled to take place between him and the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopulos, the President said that he hasn't yet received an invitation from the United Nations for such a meeting.
