This is just a thread suggesting improvements for this forum. Mine are:

1) Include an edit button to correct posts to stop un-needed 'correction' posts

2) The abilty to search for profiles

3) Can we have space to type in our profiles?

4) Different fonts and emotions to make our posts more personal

Feel free to post your own! xD

and pages for posts cos there is too much posted on one page, it takes forever to scroll down, or arrows that you hit which take one straight to the last post if needed, also a search option, a private messaging system instead of emails, a report offensive post button, an ignore button and yes of course emotions or smilies, they can diffuse a potential misunderstand in an instant.

Izzet please consider these..thanks Dee

Hi Dee

Just to address a couple of your points, the 'Report Post' option is one of the things that Izzet has on his 'to do' list. Also, if you press the 'End' button on your keyboard it takes you to the bottom of the page, likewise if you press the 'Home' button it takes you back to the top.

It could also be that this Forum is too successful!

A new thread started 4 hours ago, will appear on page 2! (Unless there are responses, not just views). So anyone not looking in for 24 hours, may need to look back a few pages for any new topics/threads.

Are there too many new topics?

And not enough topics that last a decent length of time?

Did anyone check out Kibrisibel's topic (Lapis) on TRNC Villa Owners?

1,000's of hits, without too many new postings. Do people want to keep up with a fascinating story, or must there be so many new topics every day?

I vote for an area which shows "Amount of Times Viewed".

Thanks

There are several forums (web sites) available (usually even free software) where *all* the above requested "improvements" are already built in. Maybe one of the most important being: the possibility to manage sub-forums. However, for some reason unknown to me, webmaster Izzet seems to have decided to build his web site from scratch. Eventually he'll probably build some extra features into his software, but it's a lot of programming to satisfy us all. And I'm pretty sure that Izzet will *not* say yes to *all* the requests. Like he stated in another thread - he's the boss... Which nobody can deny.

DC,

That's one of the prices that you pay for being the first with almost anything computer-related.

We've all been there : - organisers/PDA's, cameras, 'phones, Betamax, Apple computers...

Just winding you up! - I knew that you'd read that far before exploding!

Keith.

Static-X - Thank you for starting a thread like this. Now, members have their own space to write whatever they like in their profiles

Static-X - Ability to search profiles? Give me some parameters? What would you like? Technically, I can only put age, gender and filter on post count, because other member details are not fixed. (eg. you cannot see members from UK, because there is no field for country, so most people write their city in UK...) But I can get you all female members between 15 and 18 who posted at least 100 posts? ;)

Emoticons - The thing is they break the design, so the icons need to be like the current (only) smiley icon with 13x13 pixels size. May be you can suggest a place to get them? May be I can outsource them to a designer.. Hmmm. Can members please write top 5 emoticons they would like to use!

DutchCrusader is right. There are many forum codes that allow you to do most of the things you want, but they have a few major disadvantages.

I gave a real thought on this when I first decided to launch a forum and decided that it is best if I code it myself.

This means, I have full control of the board. I can implement cool features like the popular tags which proved to be very useful. If you are not sure on this, please spend some time. I think it's a very useful feature which would be impossible to make on a ready-code forum.

For example; You can see all discussions about HBPG with one click and not miss out anything, similar all discussions about a specific property development you bought, (Sweetwater Bay), etc.

Secondly, I plan to expand Cyprus44 in near future. So, members can private message each other, arrange groups, etc - a very small scale Facebook may be? I plan to make a reviews section where members can post reviews about restaurants, bars, hotels, estate agents, lawyers, etc.

In order to do all these, I need full control of the database so members need not to create separate accounts to post forum, post reviews, events, etc.

So, anyway, I had my reasons

Thanks batterboy58.

Please keep this going and I will choose top 5 requested emotions and will make them available.

Btw, the homepage now shows 100 threads (instead of 50) when you are logged in. When not logged in, it still shows 50 threads.

Izzet, I's like to make another request for an improvement: the possibility to upload graphics and pictures (you know the possible formats for the Internet) in messages.

But here's the conditio sine qua non: uploaded graphics, pictures etc MUST be your OWN (art)work so we don't get a messy board full of stolen Smilies, jumping tulips, racing trucks from left to right to left to right etc. There are other places on the Internet where childish people can play all day long with stolen animated graphics.

Message 29: Where I typed "I's" please read "I'd".

1: Another request for your list (although it's an easy one to implement...): reduce the 1000 letters per message to 500. Makes easier reading and I think nobody should need more than 500 letters for a message on a board. And no more copying and pasting of (long) texts: provide the link to an interesting site or article and let the board members read the text there.

2: And one more: Make it impossible to write more than one message at the time in a thread. So no more "continued" messages. Short and to the point messages keeps the board lively - just my opinion.

I agree with the request for users to be able to edit their posts. Many forums that I have implemented have a feature where the poster has 1 hour to be able to editthe post. Once this time has gone, that's it, it's there for good. Having this feature may cut down on the bad posts where someone quickly reacts to something they do not like, then after posting they think about what they have said and wish they could remove it.

For Izzet's list: Search engine: good search engines are for sale for about 100 US Dollars (implemented in cyprus44 in a couple of minutes).

RE AndyP, "Edit": I agree. But - after one hour - will there also be the possibility to ask one of the Mods to remove the post completely or edit it?

Could we have some more suggestions for emoticons, otherwise my tongue in cheek request for angry face, shaking fist and middle finger could become reality by default.

A Quote button would be most helpful, there's nothing worse tan getting al the way down a thread, say post 65, and someone saying "Thanks for that message 20 most helpful" (groan)

I agree with D.C about the over use of smilies, but that will always happen with something new, just the little facial expressions would do, it help's people to get a point across.

To-Do List Priority List

1. Finish email verification code for new and existing members. (2-3 days)

2. Allow members to edit their post for 30 mins/1hr. ( 1-2 weeks)

3. Have 5 emotions (1-2 weeks)

4. Report Post - haven't figured out exactly how this will work.

DutchCrusader - We already use a Google powered search engine. Not sure why you need another one? I think Google's custom search engine for Cyprus44 is quite powerful. I'll give it a thought on your post word count suggestion.

4. Report Post - haven't figured out exactly how this will work.

How about a button that when pushed will prompt for a reason and then once given it will submit the details of the thread, msg number, reason for reporting and who reported it. This could then be automatically emailed to all the moderators or to a restricted part of the site (access only to mods). Once listed in the restricted zone, we could then act upon it and report back what action has been taken so that we are all aware. It could then stay in that zone for future reference.

Email verification feature done.

I've also given it some thought now and I will also implement a "account resign" feature. This will not delete member's posts but will delete his personal details from the system (except member name).

Any more suggestions?
