Hypothetically speaking, IF it should all go wrong and you are forced to move out of your properties would you go back to the UK or somewhere else?

Forget it Bill!

Going back from an 'Illegal' Country, none of you would now pass the new points system for UK entry!

Surely any members of Cyprus44 entering the UK would be entitled to asylum.

My plan 'B' is Turkey. I would never go back to the UK not even in a coffin.

If most of you have to pull out that will leave mainly the legal pre-74 title owners and Cypriots.

That's when the difference in demand and property prices between legal and illegal title deeds will probably become most noticeable.

What if 12000+ ex-pats and their families all went down South into the EU and claimed asylum

joseph msg 14,

Nobody would get asylum as they have never left or entered a country - they would still be in Cyprus.

Just to clarify... are you telling me NCyprus is in the EU... and regarded by the powers that be ... on all sides... as being such?

joseph,

The north of Cyprus is as much in the EU as the south, west and east of the country.

The island of Cyprus - all of it - is only ONE country and it's known as the Republic of Cyprus.

That's why you can't flee from Kyrenia and pitch up in Paphos claiming asylum - you've never left the country in the first place.

Arguably so is anyone who knowingly took over someone else's property.

Macha msg20

"Arguably so is anyone who knowingly took over someone else's property."

So do you consider anyone who unknowingly bought property subject to contentious title could have a basis for continuous enjoyment of such title as approved by the relevant authorities at the time of such purchase, if those such authorities were considered to be part of the EU at the time of purchase?

Macha would tell you Cyprus (all of) joined on 1st May 1984.

Unfortunately the 37%? in the North were not allowed to vote for such inclusion and therefore did not accept EU membership as such.

Macha is a fence sitter as he feels secure in his pre 1974 title property.

He thinks he is living in the EU, he thinks the other 20,000+? of us in the North do not have the same EU rights as he thinks he has himself, even though he claims we are all similarly living in the EU.

He often confuses himself and, like Doctor Who, has to regenerate into a new persona.

Something I find a bit odd.

Thanks RobnJo... I wondered why the question was left un-answered...

To be fair I'm not trying to put anyone into a hole and asking them to dig themselves out, I am trying to make the point of how difficult these questions/answers are and showing if we cannot get anywhere near a consensus on this forum what chance the politicians with Heaven knows how many lobbyist groups in their ears. Seems to me they have to start with the status quo and work from there. I say this because I cannot think of a single instance where a displacement of people( whoever is to blame) has found an answer by turning the clock back especially after so long.

Someone made the point on another thread that many Turkish born nationals who previously settled in TRNC have now become second and even third generation of people living here on formerly GC property. If they were to be turfed off would that not in itself be a form of displacement...

Hence my point re status quo... where will it end ?

re: msg 15

as macha well knows,

the north is technically part of the eu but not included in the acquis

the south legally represents the whole island

but is currently negociating with an unrecognised trnc to re-unify the island

why try to re-unify what is already one place?

another important point is that according to curved space theory

you can travel on an and on but gradually you will bend round

and eventually disappear up the place you stated from:

a region with a "very close affinity" to the place that our macha

appears to be speaking from

Hi AJ...

Seems to be on the move AJ but weather is holding things up; actually only slightly because all real movement now depends on Transformer/Substation

which we are told has been ordered. Sandie,Chris and I keep in regular contact with each other to update "neighbours" etc.

AJ I think am I right in saying you ,like Macha have lived in TRNC a while, but somehow, if you read the whole thread, I have a feeling your thoughts on this might just be rather a little different from his?

Spider, no disrespect, but I did not quite get your meaning re msg 39...?

To be honest Oilman...re msg37... you might be closer than you realise...

I actually think that the key to this whole mess could actually be the U.K. diplomatically ofcourse, our government could do an awful lot more to help solve the current problems.

We are no longer a superpower in the world but I do think our opinions and diplomacy carry weight. A CT businessman told me last year when there was all this talk about piping water from Turkey to Cyprus that if the UK government gave the nod it would become a reality and not a pipe dream (forgive the pun)

So obviously there are those out there that believe what Oilman inadvertently referred to ie... The UK
