there is talk about russians moving into north cyprus

the ones I met are charming, modest and eager to learn

given that the old lion has temporarily fallen on hard times,

russians could well save the local property situation

just like anyone else they long to enjoy a place in the sun

and the last ten years' economic growth in their homeland

has for many families made it all very possible

you would think their sights are fixed on developments in the south

buzzing, crowded and friendly:

the roc fawns over russia which duly awards benefits and favours:

a sort of "when pets win prizes"

but just a short drive north and on exchange land they will enjoy

twice the value, half the rush and an escape from the euro-zone

and one day, when you want to sell, upsize or downsize etc

it may be that a customer from russia will be the one come to see you

and discuss buying with a "fair and agreed compensation package"

Dear Andre_514

re msg 1

Except that you forget that most Russians actually seem to PREFER leaving cheek by jowl with their fellow countryman...

Ask most guys who have Russian partners.. they have a preference for the "buzz" of Limas(s)ol .. strange - but true..

I put it down to an Orthodox connection.. a feeling of "belonging"..

This is a "barrier", *I* think, to a huge Russian "invasion"... not forgetting "the Bear" has it's own economic headaches, which mean less disposable income, falling house prices at home, and a credit crunch...

cannot comment on cheeks, jowels or bears,

but granted that brits are in double meltdown over borrowing and the euro

it is aleady the case that new property buyers include a russian contingent

of course most traditionally chose the south, as did the brits

and yes, they have their problems in russia too...

but whenever someone loses, somebody else gains

and shrewd property buyers including russians

will benefit from the charm of north cyprus, low prices, excellent availabilty

and of course getting in before the start of the next upward shift...

barriers?

I thought we just agreed that despite all outward appearances,

the green line is merely a ceasefire line not an international border

while for orthodox christians,

there is the world-famous apostolos andrias monastery in the karpaz

with the nearby healing springs discovered by st andrew

and ayios philon, st hilarion, sourp magar and many more othodox shrines

"russians you are welcome in north cyprus"

"...sourp magar and many more othodox shrines..."

Badly researched, Andre. That one is Armenian.

Dear Andre_514, re msg 3

I'm SURE Russians ( well their money - if in hard currency) are welcome, but if you think their economy is better off than the UK.... so if you are looking for folk who are "gaining" .. keep looking..

If you think most Russians won't know that prices are cheaper BECAUSE of the uncertainty of ownership and "buying" in a place that isn't recognised... think again..

If you are selling Orthodox Churches, I THINK many Russians would prefer to see ones where the Priests and their flock can still attend - not "museums" :(

Most Churches "lost" their shrines a long time ago...

May be your post SHOULD have read "Russians" we need you - no-one else is buying... and I need to sell up ?

yes mark but I would prefer to call it "local ownership"

because for russians nobody could ever to push them around (non-eu)

and anyone who is street clever and worldly wise

knows there are reasons for everything, good value included

but I would still rate the trnc as having a great future in say 25 years

and mark you are 100% correct: the less other people are buying

and it is easy to understand...

the more we need the russians to keep the vital property market active

as regards selling orthodox churches: is that what really meant to say?

seems an ill-considered remark to me, whom are you trying to "persuade"?

but of course the longer the spiteful sanctions are kept alive by the south,

the less money and sympathy there will ever be to care for any monuments,

be they greek, or turkish or armenian orthodox
