As of last week the top parking area adjacent to the Abbey has now a 3TL charge. The story goes as follows, the owner of the Tree of Idleness asked the Department of Antiquities whether he could do this in order to raise funds for the local soccer club which he happens to be President. He gained permission with the relevant tax stamp on the letter of approval. The local shopkeepers pay only 1TL a day and customers to his Restaurant are exempt. I waived my Disabled EU Blue Badge concessionary parking permit but that landed on 'deaf ears'! Turned my car around and happily parked at the lower car park for no charge. The shop owner next to the new tariffed car park is up in arms with it saying it is a con and has started a petition which he'll present to the Mayor in two weeks. Please sign if you're in that neck of the woods, I did. Another great scam!!

Well if that's what the Tree of Idleness owner is doing then that's my custom he's lost! Used to enjoy it on those barmy summer evenings.

I can understand re objecting to car parking fees. Don't get the point re waving a disabled badge though. In the UK a disabled badge doesn't automatically waive car parking charges.

On our local town car park you can park with a blue badge free as long as you are in a designated blue badge parking bay trouble is they are full from 7am onwards by pretend disabled who run like Seb Coe once they have parked the car. In Southport our local seaside resort you can park all day on the street as long as you display a badge.
