does anyone know,

is it possible to enter the uk areas and if so is there anything of interest?

I believe that tea is drunk, cucumber sandwiches consumed and cricket played

but what else is there?

what about a turkish army supermarket?

I think there was some kind of thread on this a while ago

Theres a Brit Mil beachside complex in Dehkalia SBA that as a Brit Mil Veteren I sometimes use. Otherwise the Naffis are out of bounds to all but SBA serving personnel and their dependents. Even servicemen on holiday to Cyprus will not gain entry!

There is a very good fish and chip shop in Dehkelia, also a shop with the latest mags, papers etc... Bloody expensive though, everything is double or more of the UK price.

The fish and chips are fantastic though. The shop has some nice bits and bobs but as Keith said quite expensive. You can sit on the beach and watch the world go by.

The beach in question is called The Cessac. Lovely shop selling gifts papers and mags. good cafe also.We lived at Dhekelia from 1979 to 1981, that was before it was all fenced in, the only way in to the Garrison is if you are invited by a serving member of the forces.

The CESSAC (Church of England Soldiers Sailors and Airmans Clubs) facilities are available to all. As are the MMG (Mission to Military Garrisons) facilities at Ay Nik.

Well worth a visit.

Because Jack Cornish, some of us were stationed here way back when the world was young, and we like to remember the good times.

Hi harita, Easiest way is to cross over at the Beyermadu crossing, approx 600mtrs over the crossing turn left at the T junction (going straight on would take you to Pyla), go to the end of the road turn left then right. Continue on until you come to a roundabout straight over through gates turn first left then into car park on right Fish and Chips restaurant right at end of carpark, Cessac cafe and shop also there.

Yes you will need insurance, but if you want to you can even do a shopping trip as well. good english butchers, garden centre and Plus supermarket all in town just 10mins from Cessac.

Easy enough to get into the garrison especially for golfers but the naffi is out of bounds to all but those currently serving.

Huge cod and chips take away from Lambros is 6 euros.

Great value.

You don't have to go as far as Dhekalia for the Fish and Chips. The same company (Lambros) run one at the Ayia Nicholas base about 400 metres after you cross over the 'border' on the Famagusta-Dhekalia road.

You can eat inside there as well.

Re the Ex Serviceman's ID, i am aware that the Ministry of Defence have initially introduced this into Germany and it is well underway making it easier for ex servicemen to access military bases. It may be introduced elsewhere but you would have to enquire at the relevant base admin office to ask what the latest position is, for example, in Cyprus.

For basic info on what is happening in Germany please read:
