Not being morbid or anything but I read that these were the top 10 songs played at funerals:

1. Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt

2. Angels - Robbie Williams

3. I've Had the Time of My Life - Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley

4. Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

5. Pie Jesu - Requiem

6. Candle in the Wind - Elton John

7. With or Without You - U2

8. Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

9. Every Breath You Take - The Police

10. Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers

What would your's be?

How about Con Te Patiro (Time to Say Goodbye)

Always thought of having the coffin carried in to the tune "Men in Black" by Will Smith. Would hate to think my passing would be a dreary do!!

Hi all,

My dad died recently and when we all went into the crematorium we asked for Con te patiro and when we were going out I am going home sang by the welsh male voice choir. It was a lovely service and everyone commented on the choice of music.

I had the unfortunate experience of attending a very good friends funeral a 8 years ago and he had organised his funeral and as we entered the crematorium all you could hear was the song by liza minelli 'life is a caberet'.

Everyone just had to smile as they entered, it got rid of the tears initially

Davedee [msg 23]. Been a rock'n'roll nut since I was tiny [my Mum says I used to play "At the Hop" and "Rock'nRoll is here to stay" by Danny & the Juniors over and over when I was two]

Seen Mr Penniman loads of times [as well as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley]. One regret is that Fats Domino was ill the time I tried to see him.

I know lots of folk find it morbid talking of death etc but i have been imagining how we will all have our chosen music at Lapta Cemetary [thats of course if we choose not to go to Church in Girne] with a generator on for the DJ playing my songs. It's made me laugh.

Groovy Kind of Love,Phil Collins Tracks of My Tears Smokey Robinson A track from Dreadzone[one of my son's favourites]!!!!!!!!!!

By the way I was told we Brits need planning permission to get buried, does anyone know?

I know of a guy who's wife asked for the theme from Robin Hood to be played at his funeral. Of course she meant the Bryan Adams one, Everything I do ( I do for you). Unfortuantely the organist was very old and He (the deceased) went down the aisle to the tune of 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Riding through the Glen!

Dont suppose you can call this "Deja vue" but i am currently being asked to put forward a song to be played at the Crematorium following the service for my 50 year old friend Tim who passed away tragically last thursday under circumstances i dont wish to go into as they are personal and painfull to the family.I do this at his brothers request and from our time spent in America nearly 30 years ago i decided upon Christopher Cross and Sailing a favourite of ours at the time . Shalamar ,Second Time Around was also one of Tim's favourites but i felt the latter was unsuitable in the circumstances. If you dont know it well worth a listen,Sailing that is .

With regards the topic ,personally Mike and the Mechanics "The Living Years" was always apt for me the way i lost my father and wil be my anthem when the time comes.

I always wanted 'You raise me up' sung by Brian Kennedy, but then George Best went and beat me to it & even had the man singing it 'live' at his funeral - so I'm looking for something else now - although on the headstone I'd like to have ' Another McKewans Export' !!!

I think "In the Living Years" is an inspired choice. It reminds me of losing my mother, if you understand what I mean - the lyrics are very apt.

After reading all these threads I find it so sad but so much refief that we can actually discuss it. I wish all my friends here a long and happy life. Music brings a lot of memories to us all sad happy etc. We must consider ourselves very lucky that we can mak a choice and not leave it to our loved ones. I hope that the time comes when you are called there will be a million new choices. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My Way by frank sinatra and pavarotti, i have even recorded it onto disc and left very strict instructions that hubby is to gather everyone into one place and play it translated of course into Turkish. They dont have a wake after Turkish funerals so this one will be something for them all to talk about.

Wanted to "you tube" what I played for my husband at his funeral, but for some reason when you try to "you tube" on this board it won't go through? although it did for you Lem??

My husband died in February, as a result of Mr Robb and his friends, and the TRNC Government and their friends!

Friends of Friends, Enemies of Enemies, death is a dreadful thing for the people left behind, especially if your loved one left this earth to soon, (and a known criminal stole the money he had worked for all his life)

For those of you interested you can You Tube Bob Dylan "When the Deal goes down"

I hope what happened to my loved one happens to no one else, and the new Government realizes death is very final, and whether you be Christian, Muslim or Athiest you will have to account for your sins!!

Lilli, I have been trying to decide whether to take his ashes to the TRNC, I am a Catholic of Italian/Irish decent, Les was a free spirit he loved Cyprus both North and South, but died before he could spend his retirement there, Mr Robb put paid to that, we are all in the same boat, trying to make some kind of sense of Robb's and his friends crimes against humanity, my children and grandchildren need their money returned!! so unfortunately for me I need to keep on fighting!! (It may see me out) If I saw his wife & kids, my sickness would not stay in my stomach, (I say my rosary every day that I can forgive) sadly I can't!!!!

What does it matter what song you have?

We are a mere little blip on society.

Been there. done that, life is not easy. Not doing it again!

I can honesty say I have had an absolute ball in life, and in death well I can't really expect any different.... it will be absolutely fabulous. in heaven..(i hope)x

Oh Lemtich,

What can I say only Thank you soooo much, Lez and I saw him at the MEN a few years ago along with Van Morrison, we had such a good night together, and before that we saw him as young teenagers on the Isle of Wight, I havent seen this version, of what is a beautiful song, with beautiful words before, what a fantastic poet he is.

Thank you

Pat

Completely agree with you Arbee re. Leonard Cohen.

I see you got a bit of stick for suggesting some of his songs.

He is a poet and his lyrics are beautiful, trouble is people just don't listen to them and dismiss him as depressing.

I also saw him recently, in Cardiff, and have to agree with you .......what a show, loved every minute, I was mesmerised by his performance.

As for funeral songs, how about 'give me just a little more time' by chairman of the board.

Being a big Springsteen fan it has to be something by the Boss, think " I'm going down" would be appropriate.

Eager you and me both. When Im knock knock knocking on heavens door then I come back Im going to listen to all the songs mentioned. I have to confess I do like some of Mr Cohens work. My late baby brother adored him so much his son is called Cohen. I love music and would find it hard to live without it. There is such a wealth of talent out there but the songs or music at our funerals are just a reminder to the people we leave of the personality we have. At least noone mentioned the birdie song xxxxxLong may we all go on

I remember her Navak, We had "we'll meet again" at my Dad's funeral. Not a dry eye in the house. Lovely song. Can't really listen to it now without being quite emotional although he passed on 19 years ago.

I just love the big band era anyway, Glen Miller and all that wartime stuff. Magical.
