Anyone heard the same? That the Tax Office and DLO wont accept contracts in English but had to be translated into Turkish. This is becoming absolutely ridiculous. Its just a way of making more and more money out of us and if it wasnt for us no money would be going into the Country! Come on guys - please be realistic and make things easier for us.

I'm afraid that as of yesterday in Girne and a week ago in Famagusta it is true, however the good news is they (the BRS & certain lawyers) are fighting very hard to have the rule abolished and hopefully it will be shortly and common sense will prevail

Hi Guys



I emailed the Land Registry Office and was told that all contracts in English are accepted and it wasn't necessary to have a Turkish translation.

The Prime Ministry site now has the following statement:



"Do we have to translate the sales contracts into Turkish before registering to the Land Registry Office?



- In order to prevent any misunderstanding it is imparative that the contracts in English are translated into Turkish to prevent any misunderstandings in the details. The translated document is not required to be signed by the buyer neither needed to be stamped, but it is advised to bear a note from the translator stating it is as the true copy of the original. "

What translator will accept responsibility if wording is slightly incorrect and can cause problems for either the purchaser or the vendor? This does open a whole new can of worms. This is why the lawyers are up in arms. They are saying they will not take responsibility for the TRNC's Government offices interpretation of these turkish contracts. Who will be held responsible if there is a misquote? The translator? The purchaser? The vendor? Who? Honestly this law is one of the best the Government has brought out - should have been implemented years ago, they just need to make it as straightforward as possible and stop switching the goal posts. Issue statements of where translations can be done and at what costs? Come on Mr. Talat for once get your Ministers to think things through thoroughly before implementing.

No no no. The valid document is always the original document. A translation is just used as a guide.
