does anyone know of a group course to attend in town? I was having private classes but have finished now. Any summer courses around at a reasonable price? I don't mind going back to beginners again to refresh my memory, although I know quite a bit already and understand a lot more than I speak.

Thanks

Natx

I picked it up in Istanbul while teaching there. It's surprising how quickly

one learns a language when you have to get the basic necessities and no-one

speaks yours! Tried a class too, but mostly friends help, and still do. People

were always so pleased that one was trying to speak their language.

How true phylray and what a lovely story! It is so easy not to bother here as we don't really have to, everyone speaks English so well! How long did you teach English in Istanbul for and when? Do you think the city has changed much, have you been back? Natx

MikeLapta-the beginning is so wonderful and exciting, absense really makes the heart grow fonder but you will both be together again soon & then living here together, I moved to Turkey for my man and now we are here together, I remember the times we were apart were so hard but there is a sweetness to it too and it makes your relationship even stronger I think. Try Fehime. her classes are in an appartment above Niazzi's near Girne harbour. She will assess you to put you in the right level class. 0542 856 1120

Hi NatAless

Went there in '87 and stayed 3 years. First in Kiziltoprak, and then Vakif schools in

Goztepe, and Florya. First year was very hard, but great experience. Been back since

last time in April/May for a brief visit to stay with Turkish long-time v.g friend. Her family's hospitality

is over-whelming. She is now a professor & was briefly married long ago & lived in Cyprus

for a time. She came many times to Scotland as part of her research to Edinburgh.

Yes, there are many improvements, in transport especially. Spent the 2000 in Famagusta at

college there & went to the Karpaz for the millenium dawn
