Was the door broken/forced open, or was it already open / unlocked?

really , hong kong ? didnt know that , interesting , I read the following in a shariah book (islamic law ) and i like this concept :

An observer said , about his time in a muslim country that punished theives with cutting of their hands said

' I have been in this country for seven years and i have never heard of any amoutation of the hand for stealing , this is because the crime is extremely rare , so all that remians of that punishment is its harshness , which made it possible for all to live in security and tranquilty and for those who are tempted to steal to keep their hands whole ''

I was told that when I went to Hong Kong and I said to the guy maybe they should do the same back home, he was an Officer of the Law so should know the rules, maybe it would stop the thieving sods from doing it again, also stronger views on child molesting over there, they have their own punishment for that.

The theme on all these break-ins (apart from money) is patio doors. The manufacturers need to remedy this as obviously they are easy to get into without any noise or mess being made. I wonder if there are particular styles that are particularly prone?

Anyone importing security locks would do well.

hey peeps,

We were broken into last night, also in Ozankoy through the window. Just cash taken, despite other items of value being left around,

What can you do?

The neighbors were robbed last week in broad daylight while there was 6 of them in the house! They seemed to think the thief was in the garden posing as a gardener, with the hose pipe..and being holiday makers, they wouldn't have known any different.

And the week before the same house had a window forced open, and again, cash was stolen.

The police were round last week, and they don't do much more than shrug, so i guess we'll just have to hide everything!

After we had an attemped break in last year my hubbie made locks for all the windows and patio doors really cheaply with screws and some plastic tops, he drilled a hole in the frame and inserted the screws. Cost mimimal but very efficient

Don't know what was so different in the Tatlisu break ins but evidently the police turned up in force complete with forensics team to check for finger prints - Don't know if they found any but here's hoping. Think we will be taking up the idea of screws into each window now, thanks for that tip nurseawful

Harry, So sorry to hear about this, the main thing is you are both OK, we had patio and door locks fitted by Serdar in tin pan alley and found him to be efficient and reasonably priced, if yo need to increase your security he comes highly recommended.

Give Rita a big hug!

Gosh thats so scary. Someone i know who lives in Bogaz had someone break into their home last week and stole a whole heap of jewellery. She cant stay there now as she lives only with her young children.

Its my worst fear to have someone come into my house when i was asleep. I dont know what i would do, probably have a heart attack there and then!

I hope they find the people who did it, and im glad your all ok. And i completely agree with those who have said they should have their hands cut off. Cant see them breaking into a house in a hurry after that can you!?

There were two attempted break-ins at our neighbours also in Ozankoy in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

In one house they came through a little ground floor toilet window, which is how they entered my house last October. They however, knocked over a clothes airer and ran off when my neighbours shouted. In the other house owned by a TC, he caught the guy on the UPSTAIRS balcony, but he slipped his grasp and jumped to the floor. He must have hurt himself though because there was blood on the patio.

in england they do nothing when house thieves are caught, slap on the wrist.best thing to do is catch them and punnish them yourseves.i think they might get the message.my mate years ago caught someone trying to rob his house,so he kicked the s,,, out of them, took them to the nearest police station and threw them over the desk.told the police he had done the job for them, and left.

After the last spate of 'break ins' I visited the locksmiths (Anahtlarci) in 'Tin Pan Alley', Girne, opposite and just up from IMAP and bought the Yale patio and window locks he sells. They are about 30TL each and each one takes about 10 minutes to DIY fit or he does a good fitting service for a fee. Can be fitted to allow ventilation and security. Recommended asap.

Is this an increasing problem over there now. When we first came over it seemed unheard of but when we we over in June there were two break-ins where we were staying in a week. I also had some undies nicked off my washing but that's probably another story.

On our return my bag was snatched out of my kitchen while we were in the house. Surprisingly we were over run with police, forensics, victim support and a free security review who fitted chains and door alarms thoughout the house.

This may be worth trying over there. You set it and if the door opens it sets off a really loud alarm. Small and battery operated.

Hi Everyone, I am not trying to ply my wares or promote my business, but I have some of the latest technology alarm systems available - even telephones / security control centre (no land line needed) that alerts you when the wireless sensors are activated - it calls your cell phone and a list of numbers - which you decide. It can also be used as anormal phone and SMS. I have MMS GSM camera alarms that sends pics of the robber to your cell phone and alerts just the same as the telephone system. On the more basic end I have door and window (individual) alarms that activate when it is opened or broken. All of the alarm systems are "set" by a key fob and have a "panic" button also. I also have sonar pool alarms and many other "security gadgets" including "fake" dome security cameras that have flashing diode and auto lens - afterall, how many of the robbers can tell the difference - I even have trouble telling the real and false apart. If I can help call me on 0533 843 8232 (Mark)
