My son is traveling to Ayia Napa in July and will have 8 months left on his current passport. I know some countries say you need to have at least six months on your passport before allowing entry but I also know that some countries say that you need at least 12 months left on your passport what is the story on the North and the South Naas 26

Im pretty sure its 6 months here. Though dont quote me on it. I do vaguely remember hearing something about you needing at least 6 months on your passport to travel, though that could have been for Turkey. Even still, i'd imagine it would be the same. You could possibly find out on the embassy website?

Naas26 I work for the Identity & Passport service & six months is the minimum for all European countries, so your son will have no problems. The only thing I will say is that if he applies for a new one, they are taking between two & three weeks to come through, any unused time will be added to the ten year life up to 9 months, also they are going up in price soon. Hope this helps. Paul

kazbo You can renew your passport at the British Consulate in Nicosia, however it takes ten days or so to get it back. How you would get on crossing the green line to get home & then to go back & collect it I'm not sure. No doubt others have done this so they may be able to advise how. Paul

The British Consulate in Nicosia is on this side and not the Greek side so not a problem.

Message 7 - I'd say you were probably lucky not to have had this picked up at the UK airport you came in from. This is where this type of thing is usually noted. I'm just passing on "the rules". Wouldn't recommend others trying it. I know I'd hate to get to the airport and (a) being told I couldn't fly or (b) being told I couldn't enter the other country. Paul

I recently looked into getting a visa foir my wife and daughter for entering Larnaca and it was not possible as my daughters passport had only 5 months on it. Not british passports but I think the law is the same regardless.
